In nearly one month I will be out hitting the roads and need to develop a travel plan.  I will be starting in Northern Idaho and would like to be down south  in a LTVA or such by the fall.

I can't do the wherever the winds take me approach and would like any suggestions of don't miss places any of you may be aware of.

I intend to be out of Idaho asap after a couple weeks in the Sandpoint area. I would then shuttle around into Washington and meander into Oregon etc etc.

I am hoping to hit as many "events" (?) and as much spectacular scenery as possible. Any great places to rock hound or interesting historical archeological sites to visit... Is there a great artist festivals that you are especially fond of? Is there a "place" other caravaners  hang out during the summer in the Northwest?

If any of you have a "wish I spent more time" locale I would love to hear about them.

I was thinking of Stonerose which is a Eocene fossil dig open to the public in North Eastern Wa.  and then maybe spend some time in Central Wa. hounding for Ellensburg Blues?

Not sure of anything else really. I know I want to stay off the interstates as much as possible.. especially I-5 and I really don't want to Walmart hop.

Please .. put some blips on my radar and I will connect the dots :)

The only real activity I have will be the Oud I ordered tonight. Hopefully I will be able to entertain some of you by the time I get down south! Get your belly dancing costumes ready!

Drive the roads less traveled, is my suggestion.

Pull out your maps, find the scenic routes and side roads that still get you the general direction you want to go.

Drive thru old towns and admire courthouses, old homes, gazebos in the town square, rivers running thru them, etc.

Any road running along a body of water is good, or winding thru hills and mountains.

Enjoy.

You will need to check with each states (and sometimes county) travel restrictions. These are changing weekly.  It is hard to get a clear picture on where out-of-state recreational travel is allowed and how it is being enforced.

 - California - must stay home except for essential services.
 - Montana currently has a 14 day quarantine for all out of state visitors.
 - Washington - stay at home order through May 31, will it be renewed?
 - Oregon still restricts travel to 'essential'.

My guess is that restrictions will be lifted by the end of June, but you will need to check and make alternate plans.

And you can likely drive thru any state, if not stop and spend time.

I would call the state police for any state where you are headed, as they could tell you of any travel issues.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

I was hoping that the lockdowns would be wrapping up by July.  Cali will probably be the last to do so..bummer.. I would really like to see the huge redwoods and sequoias.

I had no idea Idaho had "caverns" I will check those out and make a stop at  one at least.  Thanks for mentioning the hot air balloons. I forgot all about that and have always wanted to check that out.

The road less traveled is definitely the route I plan to take. Ideally with a speed limit of 55 or less.
I am happiest when "stuck" behind a combine traveling at 35mph.  Last spring I had to go to Olympia, Wa. for a work conference driving across the State on I-90... and then down on I-5... good gravy.. talk about sheer terror.  I am far too old now to engage at those speeds anymore.  I have no idea where all those "important" people are going that they need to be in such a hurry.

Thanks again for suggestions and tips.

I don't play the oud yet. I just ordered one and I hope it isn't a toy variant.  The prices range sooo much and my order wasn't the most costly..LOL

Maybe this cover I will make  my first tune to learn..seems appropriate.

I-5 is not for the faint of heart. I hate to go through Seattle... Scary! But there are a lot of fun things to see. Some of WA is starting to open, but not everything. Including campgrounds. Check first. And when they do open there are a few million folks here that will be rushing to get out there.
Try some of the islands, they are fun to explore. As well as the coast from Forks all the way down. And as one of those folks, I'm looking forward to Creasant Lake, OK, I'm not going to be that picky, just out of my yard. I know a few folks who love the Gorge and rock hounds really like the rocks on the East side of the mountains, but not sure really where they go.
Where ever you go have fun.

Mind the gutter...:)

I could run with that but I won't.
