Say what?

Watch this video at 2 minutes, or watch the whole thing   http://tlc.ku.edu/elements   edit (the video didnt show on the link, it is part of the anti-rumination strategy)  So let me try the youtube link.

So why I am posting this is because in the end I didnt feel ultimately that I can go out vandwelling.  I am not "hardy".  Yet I felt all along that the most important thing was outdoors in nature time. Lots of outdoors in nature time.  Vandwelling just about forces you to do that.

I have since moved to Western KY after my initial post here.  Got my 365 dollar apartment, with shower and toilet and high ceilings (ha).  So great on expenses.  In a tiny city so everything driveable is within a few minutes low gas expense.

Moving and getting my apartment liveable was exhausting and time consuming. But now I have begun  "living outside" I am feeling so much better and that is what I so need.

I think that if you feel terrible inside,  that you want to get away, if you have to move the planets to make it happen, maybe you dont have to.  Maybe you need to be a regular camper if you still have to work, or even if that is too much, you can spend as much time as possible in nature.  Just a grove of trees, a garden, it doesnt have to be state park wonderful.  Just plunk yourself down in God made surroundings.  Wherever you are you can find a place minutes away.

I hope this is helpful.  For sure that link, plus his book you can get on Amazon        https://www.amazon.com/Depression-C...id=1539336090&sr=8-1&keywords=depression+cure       can help a lot of us in the same boat, or car or truck or van or RV

Nature is my Church and I find grounding, centering and renewal there. Few more weeks of the hard work preparing that you spoke of, with times of feelings of fear and being overwhelmed occasionally, and I'm headed that way.

I have a definite intention that I put energy in and that is learning to access and listen to my intuition as opposed to "thinking" which often times is really rumination.

Thank you for posting this. It was helpful in that I will release the remorse of having spent so much time gardening recently instead of other priorities. After gardening, I felt soooo good. I wasn't sure whether it was because I procrastinated other mundane activities. Now I see that it had a definitive effect. I had been inhaling neurological "probiotics"!
Mental health is of utmost importance.

You are welcome. Isnt it remarkable? Neurological probiotics. Get out there!

I heard bee keepers and gardeners never die : )

Maybe why outdoor workers per se are no healthier, the construction workers, road workers, roofers. They are outside in the air and sun but not IN the natural.

He said, "Being outside in nature is bizarrely antidepressant."

That's amazing - I need to get out of this apartment more often. Long story -- I'm glad you showed us this video. Yes, this could be part of the reason van life is so attractive for me. I'll be closer to nature again.

Okay, now for the short version of the long story.

Six years ago I was still living in the middle of the Klamath National Forest just uphill from the Klamath River where I'd been 13 years. During that time I was very creative and wrote about ten novels - most of which have never been edited or published.

Then I moved from that cabin-like house into a senior apartment on a prairie in North Idaho without a car for the first 3+1/2 years I lived here. When I took walks it was with the constant noise of traffic rather than in a beautiful forest where I was before. But without a car, I was stuck here. I could see the mountains but couldn't be in them.

I got a car 1+1/2 years ago... but I long for travel and am convinced I must buy a van and go live in it . . . leaving my apartment though it is seriously the best apartment in this entire apartment complex on the third floor with views of the southern Selkirk Mountains and to the east past Coeur d'Alene, the Bitterroot Mountains. But I don't want to just see the mountains, or visit them. I want to live in them.

Now I know why. I must get back to nature.

"Now I know why. I must get back to nature."

That is exactly what I thought travelaround. My van obsession finally made sense after I learned this too, and is why I made this post. I dont have to van it. I can stay in my very nice, very safe, very cheap, very comfortable apartment and make sure I keep up with a high count of outdoor nature minutes every week.

Dont gotta spend big bucks on nature vacations. Dont gotta live out of a van. Only need a natural area to get into again and again.

I just got his book in the mail. And I plan to follow every recommendation over and above the "nature meals". Who know how good I end up feeling? An affordable ONLY benefits endeavor.

The apartment in a natural area may work for now, but could it be that is just for this season of life, and maybe later van travel may make sense for you again?

I loved my 13 years living in the Klamath National Forest in a cabin-like house. It was a dream come true at the time. But now I find myself with the means to buy a van and travel, and that's another long-time dream of mine... and I do love to see different places.

Maybe that’s why walking barefoot on a beach is so calming and restorative.

That may be but it would really suck to go barefoot in Quartzsite. Ouch!!!!

My Mom told me that this was prescribed by a physician early on for her.

Anything that gives one a far horizon to look into helps lift the spirit. It's when the spirit is cornered and has no place to go and nothing to experience but itself and its narrow confines, nothing to hear but its own echoes, that it begins to feed on itself instead of taking in the life of the world, and thereby loses its vigor and wholesomeness, or turns that vigor into something unwholesome. The spirit needs renewal no less than the body.

That, along with variety, is why they say nobody goes to flatlands on vacation; they like beaches and mountains. For once, for a while, they can see a long, beautiful, untroubled way.

Sometimes I watch nature videos on YouTube - on my big TV... the videos last 8 hours with just a video of one stream or waterfall, and that water sound is so relaxing. I think just looking at the color green in nature helps.

I've read that its also the negative ions, that beaches and waterfalls, moving water...really make you feel better, because the moving water generates a lot of negative ions.

Hey sorry headache I never responded!!

There are MANY you can get that cheap in Murray KY.

So you can go boondock in Land of the Lakes and you can check out Murray. Small college town. Very safe.

ELECTRIC could cost me up to130 a month. EGADS! Now I live in the great cheap electric state of Tennessee!

Where I was was outside the city limits. Therefore different electirc company. Never bothered to see if the in city was way cheaper or not.

Red Oaks apartments 1409 Diuguid Dr Murray KY

USA Today voted Murray KY the friendliest town in the USA http://www.tourmurray.com/about-murray/friendliest-small-town/

Headache it’s really cheap here near us. You know where we are. They have new senior apartments based on income also. I heard they were pretty nice.

You’d have good neighbors

To me, an apartment based on your income would be a real blessing.

I survived working until retirement by camping every weekend I could during the nice weather months.  The rest of the time a park or good backyard helps.
