And related to that topic, I would like to see 'blind' links eliminated, discouraged, deleted, prohibited, or whatever.

If the link is obvious like doubleU dot abcnews dot something, or doubleU dot vanlifepostcorona dot something, that's not so bad....its the blind links like 'CLICK HERE to see the webpage'...or 'join us HERE'...but who knows where they go...(yes I know about hovering your mouse and reading the destination link in a browser but that often does not work on a tablet or smartphone, and they are just bad practice in a public forum)

Thx Qxxx for starting this thread based upon valid important information and trying to keep it on track.

The New York Times has been offering much of their Covid19 articles for free online. As well, they have a free daily newsletter on Covid19 which all can subscribe to and receive emails every morning with the latest news updates. Sign up at their website.

One of their latest articles relates to recent tests by scientists and researchers upon material for face masks and filtering effectiveness.
Looks like we will all have to make our own.

And that NYtimes link has a sign-in wall, similar to a paywall...you have to sign in with google, facebook, or apple, or subscribe or donate your email to read it...

Un-usable for many of us.

As I signed in for this, didn't realize it had opening restriction. The NY Times is one of the few objective sources of quality info.

Surely the quality of the New York Times reporting is worth a sign in giving an email account.
If security is an issue, create a new email account?
Which is what I did. Common to have a second email for this type of situation where you don't want to give access to your main account. Easy enough.
Un- usable? Not instant, direct access maybe.
Sign up for something of value, well worth it Tx.

Ok, but as HDR has reminded us, there should be an idea of where we are going, and what we will see, when we click on a link.

This is a thread about information. That information should (in my opinion) be readily available without jumping thru hoops to get it. I think it's lousy of the big content providers to have those barriers, especially now, but they dont really care what I think.

And, many websites are being hacked and vandalized, since so many hackers are sitting at home now like many of us, with nothing to do but try to generate revenue improving their 'skill set'.

Having said that, I have also posted links (unknowingly) that had some sort of barrier...but I dont implore the readers to capitulate to the website, I go 'back to the drawing board' to find a more open source of the info or content, if possible.

Mods, I fully expect this detour I caused will get deleted...and rightly so, since the thread is about covid info, and obviously this sub-topic is off-topic.

If you click on this link, you will find a service that often - not always, but often - will get you around a paywall - https://outline.com Just copy and paste the link to the article you want to read into the box.

Also, very often stories from both the NYT and WaPo get picked up by other media, and a lot of the time they don't bother to change the original headline. Just search on the headline.

New acronym from above CDC site:
PUI
Pronounced "poo-ey"
Defined as person under investigation.
