I'm so conflicted i don't know what to do. i just got the first and only offer since my truck has been for sale which has been months. and its for 1-2 grand less than what im asking. which was only 3-4 thousand.. I'm so impatient to get out on the road . but everyones giving me sh*t now about selling my truck. telling me to think about my options. and making it seem like its really irresponsible. and im scared about what to do i guess? i dont know.. im havin a hard time right now with all of this.. and the guy wants to buy the truck like yesterday .. hes ready to come give me the cash .. SO CONFUSED ON WHAT TO DO

Johnny, speaking to you like a mother or maybe an aunt, I would ask you this: If you are having so much trouble now making decisions, how do you think you're going to make it out on the road? Will you be dependent on other people for direction? For most of us, life on the road--or in a van or RV--means being fairly independent. None of us really knows you or your situation well enough to make decisions for you.

Get a spiral notebook and start writing down pros and cons of your various options. Get a handle on what your really want and then focus on that. Wish you the best!

Man, I can SOOOO relate to people making low-ball offers on your stuff though, Johnny!

Since I've been running ads on Craigslist, trying to sell all kinds of stuff in a short period of time cuz I only have 6 weeks left, even though it's cheap to begin with, people continue to make these ridiculous, insulting offers, usually around HALF of what I'm asking. Granted, I expect people to haggle me down, but dang, be REASONABLE!

Still, in spite of that, I usually crumble & take whatever I can get, cuz I know the stuff has to go out the door one way or the other very soon anyway, & in the end, I'll end up GIVING or THROWING it all away. I wouldn't mind so much, if I weren't in such an incredibly bad financial bind, & truly needing the money. I think people realize that & take advantage. :-(

First of all, is the truck worth what your asking?
Second, Is the offer enough for you to start what you want to do?
Third, What is more important to you? Waiting to get the money you want from your truck, or getting started on what you want to do?

sidat. thats the hard part. they're both important to me so i guess i'll just have to wait it out a little bit. see if i can get a better offer.. . and im asking for way below the blue book value of my vehicle. which is between 3600 and 6000, im only asking 2800-3000. .. ill just have to weigh my options.

sirjoey. yeah thats exactly what frustrates me. the first thing the guy said was "why are you trying to sell the truck?" and he said it in the most insulting way as if he was insinuating that i was broke or something and totaly needed the money, and would take any offer. he offered 2 grand. i was super insulted. i just dont get some people. however .. ive been actually considering the offer (because even though he has no idea ) i do need the money. so i may just do it. and wait 2 more months so i can save another grand then ill have the 3 grand i wanted anyway. (BUT i just found a BAD ASS suburban for sale ..too bad it only gets like 9-13 miles per gallon.. LOL i think i might get that anyway. its pretty bad ass with a lot of room

That's just the nature of Craigslist these days, in this economy.
There's lot's of desperate people out there selling stuff, and the sharks smell blood in the water.

I've developed a pretty thick skin and just delete the low ball offers without responding. I've also learned to price my stuff just a little bit higher so I can knock $10 - $20 off and let the buyer feel like he got the better of me. ;-)

It's all a big game.

JohnnyGutz... Just get thicker skin and learn to say NO and mean it. You are the only person that knows what you need and want to get from something that you own. It is all you. You just need to exert yourself and learn to just say NO when it isn't what you want. Someone else will come along and buy it. No need to deal with bullies and hagglers that are offensive and insulting. In fact next time you talk to that person say the price has gone up LOL Take control of your life and show it! Make a stand and do not let others make you question yourself. Remember the truck is yours and you make the rules.

I wouldn't sell it to him. Unless he can point out stuff that you both know is wrong with the vehicle and justifiably drops the price. No. No. No. Simply say "Thank You, but No Thank You" and move on. It's your truck and you should sell it for what it's worth. That's the only reason you need give anyone if they ever ask. So if it take more time to sell it, then it takes time to sell it. Craigslist isn't the only free place to sell stuff at.

I share your impatience for wanting to get out there but if it means going thru a little pain now to make things much easier later .. THE SACRIFICE IS WORTH IT! My plans to hit the road have been delayed by a full two years for various reasons (I got less than a year left now), but the biggest one is so that I'll be debt free.

I had some guy try that same tactic with me when I sold an old car of mine. The guy was insulting and became pushy when I said no thank you. He wouldn't take no for an answer or leave me alone so I started raising the price by $100 each time he spoke, $500 each time he insulted me. He gave up when the total price had doubled. In the end I sold it for the asking price to a dad helping his daughter get her first car.

Craigslist is polluted with buttheads and folks trying to get a deal. Everybody wants a bargain - vandwellers not excepted as you look at our own comments in the classified subforum.

Here's the the thing: folks trying to get the best deal possible is their individual goal... it has absolutely nothing to do with you. Not your ego, not your esteem, not your pride. It only impacts you if you agree to the offer and ONLY YOU have that power... the buyer only has the power you give 'em. Leave your feelings at the door and a tire-kicker comes and you'll make rational decisions.

Also, blue book is BS. Look at very similar vehicles for sale. Keep it in your region. You'll get a more realistic idea of the vehicle selling potential. The only true value of an item is the convergence of the minimum number of dollars you're willing to trade for the item and the maximum dollars a buyer is willing to trade for your item.
Just don't let impatience cause U to make a rash decision which U may regret later. From what U say, U still have time. Don't let some knothead goad U into taking less than U really want for your truck, if you're sure it's worth more.

Try to be patient, weigh all your options, keep shopping for your ideal vehicle, & keep advertising your truck. Given some time, U may be glad U held out a little longer. JMO, hope it helps! Good luck! :)

ok well i considered all this stuff that everyone said which i thakn all of you for your thoughts and considerations and ideas. so i called the guy this morning and made a counter offer and said i cant go less than that. and he accepted. it wasnt a huge amount difference in reality but its a big difference in my eyes. and that just means i'm that much closer to my goals. i dont even NEED the vehicle. the vehicle i DO need is the one i am trying to buy SO this is good. now Ill be able to save around 500 dollars each month, for the next few months and get a nice vehicle for around 4-5 grand. this sets me back on getting out sooner but i think that's probably better anyway. i want to prepare more first and this is going to be the best way i think to save etc. THANKS AGAIN.

Good job, Johnny!!

well yes i considered this.. and i did tell him he can buy it. he upped his price considerably. so i'm happy with that. just shy of what i was wanting anyway. so im completely ok with that. and yeah i am looking forward to living in more of a bargaining lifestyle. and some placees bargain like petsmart. you can haggle with them for a better price and they usually do it. or come close to it LOL ..sad example..but there are places out there! although yes, they're rare in america. sadly.

I posted before I saw your solution so I deleted my post.......good on you Johnny! Have fun finding the one you want....4-5 grand is a great amount to get just about anything you want and in good shape...
Best of luck..
Bri
