Go figure. Had to go further into the desert to get acell signal. Solar is kicking butt. Hot here. Worked on SB all day yesterday while everybody napped in the shade. Moved away from everyone this am. Snuck in yesterday. Only hard core nomads saw me. Got some thumbs up.

1/2, assuming you're talking about Craggy Wash, the youtubers mention staying out fairly close to the highway where they can get cell signals. Obsession with uploading videos.

In my case, when I'm on the road, I use internet only once a week or so, ie when I'm in some town, usually at the library. I don't even have a smart phone, just tablet and laptop. I find other ways to spend my days and evenings. At home, I'm on the computer all day long working on my projects, so log onto the internet all the time when the brain needs a break - which is a lot at my age. On the road gets me into the alternate life. I like that.

Having a NotHardlyA-Keto diet breakfast this morning.
- eggs
- sliced turkey
- onions
- snap peas
- squash
- tomato
- cooked in olive oil
- (forgot cheese)
- coffee brewed in my French Press

Has ketchup on top, but now I'll have to get some Cholola or Tapatio, since I'm actually cooking more. My gut can't handle the hotter jalapeno stuff.

I have 3 large bottles of Chohula. Was going to make a country scramble this morning, but can't find the propane hose for the stove. Must be sitting in the garage, staying nice and cool. Looks like Hong Kong Noodles on the induction for breakfast. Tranquil here, nice stars last night.

You might get one of those little butane stoves with the fuel bottle internal, just for special occasions. Like cooking outside on a table. Besides my folding chair, I have a little folding table used outside for various purposes. $3 from Goodwill in Redmond OR.

I see LHC has a couple of Goodwills. I have bought several items from them for the van. No telling what you'll find at those places. Cheap DVDs and books among other things. I got an entire season of Poirot at Redmond.

I have my my folding table set up with the stove on it. I will give a thorough looke for the hose after I have my noodles.Got a free chair as I entered CW yesterday.

Hmmm, that may be a good way to meet people. Boonie-begging, not dissimilar to e-Begging. Walk up to various RVs in the desert and ask if there is anything they want to toss away, and that you might be able to use. Ya never know. It would help if you had a cute little dog. I believe they have a place at RTR where you can donate your unwanted goodies - so no need to just toss them in the desert.

LOL, it was sitting in the middle of an intersection with a free sign attached, no one around. It was well used and a lot of repairs. I sat on it to check the comfortability of it. It passed so I snatched it.All I brought with is 2 card table chairs. I will set them out so I can visit with my friends the crows.

Crows are my friends. I often visit with crows. 2 summers ago I was redecking the dock. Had the old deck removed and was installing the new. I was straddling the beams with new decking in my arms. I took a misplaced step, and down I went. Wedged with one leg in the lake and the other atop the beam. Doing the splits. I was wedged just above the hip. A crow landed on the pylon next to me. Inbetween winces I would look up at the crow and it would have it's head cocked staring at me with what looked like concern for my well being. After I negotiated the pain, I was able to free myself and layed on part of the completed deck. The crow saw that I was going to be okay and flew off. I relayed this to my wife. She said or the crow was wating for me to pass for a feast. I did not believe her version was the case. Anyway, I walked like Tim Conway playing the old man for 3 days.

I figured that's how you found the chair. "Take for Free, all you need do is FIX all the broken parts", LOL.

I have my many years-old folding deck chair, but recently also bought a nice new one at Walmart, for $35 ... oof. I can leave the old one with other little junk as a campsite marker when off for the day. No one would want to steal it.

True story. When I was up in the Sierra last month, I signed up for a campsite in a CG, and left some stuff on the picnic table. I took my old chair with me to sit under a tree at a nearby lake (did not have the new chair then). When I got back a guy had taken over my campsite, thinking the previous tenant had left. The host was gone for the day.

He had moved in his Casita, unhooked it, set up the awning, and basically brought everything he owned out onto the picnic table, so I couldn't really make him move at that point. He turned out to be a nice guy and offered me a beer. He was reading the Epic of Gilgamesh, so we had a good time talking about legends and religion. He'll probably be at RTR.

I like crows - as you can tell, although the icon is "supposed" to represent a Raven. Corvids are basically the geniuses of the bird world. There is a good book about how smart they are,

The one down side is we are infested with crows around here. They chase all the other birds away. There were a couple of gorgeous Cooper's Hawks nesting here for 3-years, coming back every spring from down south, but the crows chased them away.

There were also absolutely beautiful Marsh Hawks nesting down the road, but they didn't show this year either. When I would go watch them, the female would buzz me repeatedly with a loud squawk, but the male was more mellow. Male is almost pure white, female has brown strips.

Anyone passing thru Carlsbad NM should stop by Happy's, on the south end of town, and have a 'Steak Finger Basket'...

Real MEAT! Not those breaded (dreaded) 'mystery meat' sticks.

There is plenty of parking out front and some off-street parking for even the larger rigs.

Cool. Speaking of who you meet on the 'road'. I just ran into a vandweller in a Transit 350 with solar panels atop. I decided to wander in the store and there he was. Couldn't miss him. He was hanging out in the camping section. His cart had ramen noodles in it. He was wearing a 'outdoor research' hat.  :D

So, Liv, I hope you invited Mr Hat to come to RTR ... to help cook at the big barbecue.

1/2, you generally need to mark your campsite when gone, and especially don't leave "any" expensive stuff lying around. Just common sense. Remember Lost_Guy leaving $400 worth of gear out in the open, and which was stolen while he was gone. Common sense.

Usually a chair and gallon water bottle are adequate. When I camp, all I ever put outside the van is my chair and little table, except cooking stuff, and then that goes right back into the van afterwards. When I was at La Posa South, I just used the chair and table to mark my campsite, and put a sign on the chair saying I'll return and the date. People constantly come and go there.

When I was boondocking outside of Buena Vista, I was continually challenged for my spot ( next to a put-in overlooking a gorgeous river). I mentioned this to the manager at the grocery store in BV. He sold me two orange flag/markers and told me to put them on either side of my tent and to pitch my other tent. No more problems. I had the very best view available. I eventually welcomed a couple with children to my site. The kids were up for playing with my Golden - a win/win situation , all around. And I got homemade chocolate pudding out of the deal. I love that Mom! Peace :)

Look back a couple of thrwads HDR I took a picture. It was good.

I like real meat . Going to have to stop there.

Liv, very strange you were challenged at a campsite where you had your tent pitched. Those Arkansas River runners must be really aggressive people.

True story. We had our tent pitched along the Nantahala river, then went to the put-in to run it. By time we got down to  where our tent site was, someone had stolen our tent. Those river runners are horrible people.

True story. The first time running the Ocoee, we went to the Hiwassee River place and one of our party "rented" an open boat. The guy said "Do NOT run the Ocoee in my boat!". Well, on the very first rapid, said member of our party wrapped the boat around a very large rock, breaking both of the metal gunnels. The boat looked like an Omega when we pulled it off the rock. Those river runners are crazy. Ala this ....
