Camping at Quartzite

I will be over tomorrow, Saturday, for a yearly get together in the afternoon. On my way over I'm going to stop and get a couple of boxes of produce from Produce On Wheels, With-Out Waste. They redirect produce that the warehouses couldn't market to sites that sell it in lots for a small donation. I got a box last Saturday and the produce is first rate. No choice on what is included, so I don't know what I will have. I'll be at YARC camp around 11 or so. This is my idea of fun, find a good deal then share it out for free.

I look forward to meeting those of you I haven't met yet, and seeing good friends again. I drive a red Mazda3.

Just asking.... Just in case the ginger bug I'm feeding gets all lively and capable of making ginger beer...

Does anyone at La Posa South drink carbonated stuff that comes in plastic bottles? If so, could that anyone/someone save me a few bottles with lids, please? I'll pick them up at your camp.

Don't want to count my chickens too soon -- ginger bug/ginger beer has been the most finicky/mysterious ferment I have ever fermented. When it works, it is as bubbly as champagne. When it doesn't, it is as flat as my tears of frustration.

I picked up some yellow squash and a eggplant, going to fix at least some of the squash for supper tonight, yellow squash and onion sautéed with olive oil and butter. YUMMM!!!

I grew up in the country in the 50's and the only things I won't eat is squash, eggplant and english peas.

You don't know what you're missing. About the only thing I won't eat is Orka, I will use it in Gumbo, but that's about it.

I plan on visiting La Posa South LtVA in early March. I was wondering how crowded the South section of La Posa is. I was there last year in late March and Early April and it seemed to be about 25% occupied.

People come and people go at LaPosaSouth. S A couple of big groups came in a while back but the seem to be mostly gone today. They must have been on the 14 day stay rate. I am just before the end of the paved area. And it is likely around 25 percent or less. Remember no Canadians here this year. The only people close to each other seem to be people who are there to hang out with each other.

Stormy evening wiith a thunderstorm coni g through. That was not in the forecast I saw online!.

But at the moment in the NOAA forecast zMonday night looks to be adoozy with rain plus 35mph gust predicted.

I did some work today on a shock cord tie down for the wind panels on my new popup shelter because the velcro on them was not proving to be sufficient on its own. Not finished with the final version of it yet as I could not find all the parts I needed in Quartzsite stores. Oh well I will make do with temporary fasteners this week and do a final version after I mail order in a few fittings.

I knew when I was living in the Seattle neighboorhood I spent the last decade in that I was totally spoiled by the variety of materials and tools being sold within a few miles of my location. A lot of marine, stores as well as industrial stores and a bunch of tool stores, sporting goods and camping supplies as well. Paints, adhesivres, fasteners, plus lots of free professional advice. Oh well, I do miss it but now I have a lot more sunshine in my life and a lot less traffic.

Cold and windy today. And it was raining this morning too, it was just like being in Seattle in January, except for the scenery. I feel right at home!

I experimented with my extra wind panel for my CLAM Quickset. I've been planning to to cut it in half to make a door panel, but I now think that is way too much work, not to mention unnecessary. I think all I need is some heavy duty velcro and thread and/or adhesive. It is easy to just unhook either bottom corner and get in through the screen door, and then turn around and rehook the corner from the inside. Securing the sides and top of the panel can be accomplished by the addition of velcro in strategic spots. Will have to wait for calmer weather to do it though!

Any thoughts on a good adhesive to use?

I think as well as the Velcro I would put some loops of paracord or grommets so you could use ball bungees to insure it stayed around if the Velcro comes loose. The 3M heavy duty Velcro has some pretty good adhesive on the back, but over time sand starts to work in at the edges. Some canopies use small screws to hold the Velcro to the metal pieces as well as the adhesive and sew the other side to the material.
