Gloria Steinem fought for equality for ALL, not just women, including people of different races, religions, cultures.  But that's another topic.

Every individual sees things through the lenses of personal experience.  You raised sons with a husband and father there to contribute?  I raised daughters whose father abandoned his family.  

Wagoneer, your heart seems to be in the right place. Do not be afraid, go forward and engage and learn.  I admire you and all out there who care enough to really listen and contribute in a POSITIVE way to this.

Fyi , I was a single parent for many years.  and mothers have "those talks" with their sons as well. while it is less common maybe, boys are also raped and abused.
I think you are a few years older than me. and yes, gloria Steinem, for me. symbolizes the hypocrisy I see from the feminist movement of that era. the men in my generation have been marginalized and many lost their way in the changing social climate. 
 If you would also like to know, since you came down harsh on your judgement of me, I have been raped. I have also had an abortion. I am a woman and my opinion is just as strong as yours.   You don't trump my opinion somehow, because you were a single mother of females.

I do not mean to come down hard in judgement.  I do not know how parents rear sons and my question was a sincere legitimate one, not an accusation.  I truly apologize for sounding that way.  It was a simple request for information that you, Gallica, answered.  Thank you for that.  But I hear the anger in your "voice" so I will withdraw from this conversation.  Reluctantly because there are things I don't understand from the other side of this fence and would like to know but perhaps this isn't the place.  I'm not into shouting matches and it's too easy to misunderstand or be misunderstood in this medium.  

So, as many would probably prefer anyway, lol, I'll crawl back into my hole.  Maybe some day I'll understand better but I guess it's not today.

That's not what MGTOW is about. A good portion of it is addressing the legal inequalities and danger for men, especially marriage.  Take some time to really read about the movement, not the sensationalist items you hear about it on mainstream media.  For example I have been married twice to 2 selfish, lazy women (my fault there), who did not contribute financially to anything in the marriage, but walked away from the divorce with 2 of my fully paid for retirement homes and a substantial alimony; the court system is heavily biased against men. These are the issues that MGTOW represents. Had I only kept them as GFs instead of a legally binding marriage contract I would have not only been able to leave when they started to treat me badly (fear of losing everything, which happened anyways) but I would have a good retirement fund, paid for home, and would be full timing 3 years ago. Luckily I am a very hard working person and have my 3rd house 1/2 paid for and 1 year from full timing. I am the type of person MGTOW represents.

Change happens on a pendulum, swinging from one extreme to the other. Eventually the pendulum settles in the middle.

I use this exact analogy all the time but have never heard anyone else describe it this way. I truly believe it to be true and it helps keep me from feeling too discouraged if the pendulum is swinging the "wrong way" for awhile.

Apparently I am too...and I never even heard the term before...(I looked it up)

I won't post all of my past experiences with women but lets say there are some similarities.

I know one thing for sure, I am NOT politically correct. Men are men and women are women. Respect for everyone, and for the differences between them. 

Yeah the lines get blurred sometimes, but that doesn't change my outlook very much. I see the relationships between men and women as they really happen, not the way Hollywood thinks they should happen.

When I hear/read the term "politically correct" I'm reminded of the term "teenager", which didn't exist until Reader's Digest coined it in the 50's, which then also opened a can of worms.

Exactly! Been there, done that, and did not even get a T-Shirt. Divorce is a very expensive lesson. Come to find out later, my ex's mom was even coaching her on how to get the most from me, and the court system went right along with it. But I see it's okay to call us crybabies when we decide to look out for ourselves?

Gloria Steinem lead the "Men are Useless" brigade.  I am old enough to remember Gloria Steinem's famous quote: "A man without a woman is like a fish without a bicycle".   Today, if I said the same thing but with the words "man" and "woman" switched, I could lose my job for anti-women "hate speech".
