Any use for the flashed Verizon 3G hotspots?

Like others have reported, my 3g Verizion hotspot stopped working.  It appeared to connect a couple of days ago, but I think my tablet had found another hotspot.  Anyhow, I was wondering if there is any way of using the Verizion hotspot I bought on eBay (GLS) for another plan on Verizion or elsewhere with the hotspot, or is it basically a paperweight?

-If it's one of the newer hotspots: MIFI 5510, 6620, or 7730 then it can be reset and then flashed to 4g.
-You can bring it to Verizon and buy a legit data plan for it.
-Restoring 3g service doesn't seem to be possible but I'll try replacing the sim card later to see if it works. 3g is being phased out after all.
-Sell it. I have a ZTE 890L which is pretty old but is still worth about $20
