Thanks Cherry very important to know article. Most states if not all say only if the animal is in danger. Now what happens I wonder if they break in (because they think the animal might be in danger)and the animal has A/C on in the summer or has heat in the winter. So in that case no real danger to the animal. In my state it says "Police, peace officer, or peace officer acting as agent of humane society may take necessary steps to remove animal from vehicle. Will not be civilly or criminally liable if actions taken in reasonably good faith."

I wonder if I decide to get a dog would it be feasible to leave a sticker somewhere stating the dog has A/C or heat inside? Might not be stealth but I worry about pets more than that. I think you wouldn't notice it(sticker)unless you were really looking.

Probably a good idea. Since I'm planning on living with 6 cats and a mouse in my vehicle I'm going to build in a large travel cage that they can come and go from or that I can shut the door on. I'm also going to order side door magnets that say "Cherry's Rescue Transportation" (not a lie, it's rescuing me and the cats from homelessness) and then when I park to nap I can just say I'm taking a break from transporting the cats from ____ to _____ if someone comes a knockin' I even made a logo )
Hey Cherry thats a good idea too! I have a sweet pic of my rescue mouse (RIP) Moose. I never thought I would fall for a wee mousie...but he was so sweet.

Here's the logo I made. I really think this is a feasible idea for negating the fact that I will, in no way, be stealth AND that there are animals in the car. So I could put a sticker on that says that the vehicle is climate controlled. I also think that should a knock actually come on the door because I'm parked somewhere #1 the exchange will be much more pleasant from their end #2 the most they would do is tell me I need to move and they may even suggest someplace for me to catch some winks so I don't endanger myself or the animals. Because I will most definitely ask. In some situations looking just like a slight, cute, unassuming female is very, very handy. Other times - not so much.

Good to know,no real laws about it in TX.

I was think mabey get one of these doohickeys and mount is near the inspection stickers with the electrode back wherever the animal would stay, put a little sign next to it as well. I figure cops are always checking your stickers no matter what they pulled you over/checking you out for, so they're bound to see it there. That way they know your animal is ok.

Thats very cool Cherry. Nice sign and looks pro. I just wonder if you need a permit or license for it(to be a rescue)? I was just wondering cause if they ask for it?

I don't think that they would look that deep at least I would hope not. Not much different than putting a plumbing or painting logo on a white van with the exception of the animals. Pretty sure if someone checked in on me and saw I was fine and the animals were fine they wouldn't push very hard unless something else was amiss like the vehicle smelled like something it shouldn't or was overly messy.

Fab idea with a little note that says "Current Indoor Temperature Is:"
Cherry, I wonder if those magnets will make your vehicle appear to be a commercial vehicle. The reason why I ask is because here, in AZ, there's a lot of hoopla about cops and DMV agents pulling people over with advertizing on their car and the people being fined for not having commercial insurance.

I like the idea, though! Especially since I hope to be diong some transporting!
I wouldn't drive around with the magnets on, only when I was stopped for the night in urban areas. I have transported for two local rescues in my personal vehicle as a volunteer so I wonder if I could play it that way. The logo would need some tweaking but I could come up with something I imagine.
Hope you don't plan on having hard drives near those magnets...lol
They're weak and cheap magnets. I love vista print for stuff because you can order sample items for the cost of shipping. You get what you pay for - wouldn't be a hardship if it got lost or stolen either.

You could always get a suction cup thermometer and attach it to the window so the police could see what the temp is in the van.

Yes, I was thinking rescue/volunteer, too. I currently work with a rescue group & will be traveling with my rescue kitties. So, I'm very interested in this topic.

I hadn't seen this thread before, and I have two questions:

1. If there is heat or a/c running, couldn't it be heard from outside the vehicle?

2. Cars and vans (etc): If you want to leave the van a/c or heat on, the motor must be running, which means the key is in the ignition and the gearshift is in Park. And if the key is in the ignition and running, isn't it impossible to lock the door?

I can leave mine on with the remote start and doors locked. It only stays on ten minutes but I think I can program to stay on longer. The only time my dog is ever in the car himself is when i'm eating in a restaurant, then I just restart it from the inside if need be. I don't frequent too many places dogs aren't allowed. My friend has an escape with keypad entry so she can lock her car and leave it running with the key in the ignition as long as she wants. Then press the code and open the door, wish my truck had that option.

Actually now that I say that out loud, I do have Onstar and if I subscribe to it I can lock/unlock my truck from my phone. I'm gonna sign up for a month just to experiment

I have a fancy-schmancy remote starter from Compustar that tells me the temperature inside the car, and can start the vehicle automatically if the temp gets too hot or cold.
It wasn't cheap, and I haven't had occasion to use the hot/cold auto start feature, but it's pretty sweet.
