Gentlemen...let us get something very clear. I am not a helpless female who needs rescuing when it comes to every little thing I do.Here is a visual introduction for you as to who I am, this is a photo of me in my late 20's when I was an aircraft installation and fabrication mechanic at Boeing.

Can I clean a carburetor,....yes. Am I able to rebuild one...yes. I gained those skills in my 20s back in the 1970s when I did things such as changing oil, tuneups, carb cleaning and adjusting, putting on new brake pads, etc. I still do various maintenance tasks on my vehicle and also do it on a lot of different tools as well. I am not a professional car mechanic nor have I ever wanted to be one. I don't do a lot of my own work on my car now, at least not the stuff that takes a lot of hours of bending or a lot of physical strength.

I run circles around many men when it comes to making, assembling and fixing and designing things as well as being able to read and follow complex sets of instructions, documents and engineering drawings. Of course I will never be as good at specific task as someone who is a specialist in a specific field of work. There will always be a whole lot more to know thn I have the time or interest to learn.

There is always something new to learn and my mind is not closed to learning new things. I have taken many courses over the years including A&P mechanic courses, lots of off-hour classes at Boeing for all kinds of job related skills. Nearly 20 years ago I decided to learn how to build computers, fix them and write programs so I enrolled in those classes as well as things such as database and graphic designing at the local college. Ten years ago I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge of CNC machining to using the large industrial CNC mills and lathes and to learning to program them. Here is a photo of the machines I was learning on at the local community college.

The class was not challenging for me as I have thought in X-Y-Z numerics for many years before that plus taken previous courses in computer programming. But I wanted more knowledge so if the right job came along I could qualify to do it. These were not were not my first CNC machines that I worked on and created designs for. I had already gone to the Roland DGA headquarters in California and been certified to set up and run their machines and had been using a couple of them for several years before that time.

So please quit treating me as if I am some ignorant **** who can't think, work on mechanical things or make informed decisions concerning my generator. Sometimes I choose to work on things, sometimes I choose to hire the work out if I don't feel like doing the job. My life, my choice, I don't need you to tell me I am somehow too ignorant to make my own decisions. I don't need to be told it is fun to work on stuff and make things because that is exactly how i have made my living for a great many years now.

Just so people know the cheap carbs are not made thru Honda and the reviews are mixed. The original Honda carb thru Honda costs close to 3 times or more to purchase.

Maki, thats an impressive resume, regardless of gender. I admire your ambition to keep learning new skills. One of my philosophies has alwas been that "Learning is living". I think I may have to pick your brain when I start my build, if you don't mind. I have always wanted to incorporate some smart aircraft inspired engineering into my build, like aluminum and rivets/rivnuts, as it would likely be stronger and lighter that way.

Maybe pass your old carb on to HDR if you run into him, that way he can rebuild it and have a spare for one of his many Honda machines. ;)

An offer of help and advice -in my case- is greatly appreciated.
If I'm allowed to pitch in here, I'd say that I have learned a lot from all of you good people here, male and female. Yes, I have a skill set from my younger days, but there is usually someone, somewhere that has a better or faster way of doing things, and I value your willingness to spread your knowledge.

Between CRVL and YouTube, I have learned enough in the past few years to be able to set up solar with confidence, something I was totally clueless about, say, 5 years ago.
So THANKS is in order.

Since this is CHEAPrvliving, maybe the less expensive solution was put forth first.

The labor involved wouldn't have been too much different.

Seems to me the end result would have been something to be proud of without spending cash.

Probably many people on this forum have felt they received input that seemed to include a little condescension.

Often the person who is 'guilty' of supposed condescension isn't aware of it.

Someone offering help doesn't have a radar that can detect what skill level the other person is at or exactly how they feel about the situation they're dealing with. YMMV

guys come on we don't need to get nasty.

I deleted some posts.

Please do not quote posts that obviously will be deleted or your post will get deleted to.

Maki it was because of your background that I was offering options to buying a new carb.

I am grateful for mods anywhere online who work (often thanklessly) to keep the neighborhood beautiful.
Cheers to you, HDR

You might want to.cimsider pulling the claws in. Desert nomad life is such that folks help each other. Offering different ideas to fix a problem is what folks here do. It is not seen as a belittling act. Learn to take what works and leave the rest, and learn to do it politely.

As I said before, I came up in a technical girls as the first woman there as you have. There was a time and a place for the claws. This isn't it.

Maki, please come fix everything in my RV and help me find better ways to operate. While you are at it I’ve been putting off working on a simple sewing machine just because anything mechanical gives me headaches. Math absolutely killed me.

My mind works in others ways but certainly not those.

Oh yes desert sailing. I saw that. Awesome emotional video.

Be happy to help when you get here. Then I will get the make and model of machine so I can find documentation specific to it in case adjustments are needed. Had to repair an issue on my Bernina this year, found a great youtube channel from a sewing machine repair service that was specific to my machine that showed me how to resolve the issue plus do the service center type tuneup on it.

I mostly enjoyed math classes, much depended on the teacher. But I do love online calculators that do the math for me. Plus my 3D CAD program also does calculations for me while I design. Lots of shortcuts for us math lazy folks, a category I belong to. Too many formulas to keep in my immediate memory recall so I have apps on my phone for that.

Having spent many years building with aluminum and needing to keep the renovation of my trailer light weight, I did indeed frame my cabinets with aluminum angle that is riveted together. Here is an in progress photo of the cabinet framing job. I had a lot of the aluminum ange materials needed on hand, was able to get quit a lot of the aluminum for pennies on the dollar at an estate sale right in the building where I was doing my build. Plus I was in an area where there were quite a few metal suppliers including one that had a super yard sale event I took good advantage of. Not a cheapRVliving build method unless you have the low cost resources which fortunately I did have.

I have discussed the method elsewhere in the forum in a thread on cabinet building with other persons in the forum who were interested in this alternative material for cabinet building. I won't go into how it was done in this thread so instead of expanding on it I will just share a single photo I took a couple of years back that was taken while standing outside the entry door. One of these years when my build is finished I will put up a thread showing the build from start until finish.

Muscle memory goes very deep too right along with the music that triggers it. I bet she danced that ballet many times over the years and did a thousand or more practices of it even after she left the stage. Most especially if she went on to teach ballet.

That photo makes your little red trailer look big, Maki!

You people have to stop arguing when I'm away from the forum. I miss everything.

My daughter had her baby last night. They're still in the hospital. Kids are with there father in another room of this hotel and I'm in a hotel room looking forward to an evening of showering, heating, and sleeping in a nice soft bed. My idea of fun these days!

On December 10 I will have a dental appointment to remove sutures from the tooth extraction surgery. After that, I hope to drive south though probably not a swift trip to Arizona. I want to sight-see in California for a while.
