That is really cold for FL I suppose they will be smoking the citrus. Here in southern AZ lows in the 40s so you will want to wear your snuggies. We get a few hours of the high temp, but most of the day averages to about 60 degrees, comfortable if you are dressed right.

Travelaround, the oppen space planning makes it look bigger. I have 12 feet of counterspace in this tiny travel trailer. That is more than most of the big motorhomes have for counters. Of course I don't have upper cabinets or big storage lockers underneath or a even 1 closet :)

Maki, I think there's nothing much better than a good desk. That's where I'd choose to spend my day. Yes, a perfect setup.

I do daydream about overhead storage, though, especially after seeing how much my daughter has in her RV.

Travelaround...
I don't have upper cabinets because my ceiling is low all around the edges. Your van and cargo trailer likely have the height for it. But it would limit my putting taller items on the countertops. I certainly can't do it over my bed as that would prevent me from sitting up, I can't do it over the stove as that would be a major fire hazard in terms of clearance. I just live with the limitations, don't complain about them and focus on the benefits of my setup. Such as it does not take much heat to warm it up. It can be towed with a 4 cylinder car, if I wanted to do so it would fit inside of a standard size garage door which could be very handy if I ever wanted to be gone for a while and have it and my belongings securely stored out of sight and the weather. It would fit into an 8'wide  by 15' deep roll up door storage space.

Vgilbert - We must’ve passed each other I’m down in the center of the state east of Sarasota in the middle of orange and cattle country. I made a mistake to end up here but it’s OK a friend owns this property too. But I drove way to far out of my way. So daylight tomorrow morning I’m moving. It’s not quite that cold down here although it did seem chilly last night probably in the low 50s to high 40s. Last week I have been in the greater Sarasota area and the weather changes there quickly because it’s right on the gulf. Bob mentioned the spots in that forest last year when he was here in February and I didn’t find my notes so I’ll probably PM you to find out more. I am enjoying Florida there’s no doubt about it. I heard about the bull manatee that fell in love with a submarine. Every time the crew launches a missile the bull hands out cigars. God bless the nomads no matter where they roam.

Too funny. Do you have to watch out for alligators where you are? Or do they hibernate during the winter? I don't mind having to avoid scorpions and rattlesnakes, but those alligators have some big teeth.   ~crofter

Totally agree about alligators. My mom lived in Rockport TX where there are alligators in the gulf.. not a fan. Never lived around them and don't want to.

Today left Yreka to give Happy Camp another try. Got to see my new grandson for the first time. Adorable of course. Bought seven bags of soil for my rose transplant project and got a lot of great advice from an expert, some large pots and fertilizer for transplanting. Great day and nice albeit dark drive down the river highway. I've decided I can afford a hotel room once a week for a shower.. oh. And am wondering if the LTVA has showers or must I bring my own?

No showers at the LTVA but there are a few places in town to get a shower

Maki I love aluminum for cabinets and thought it was smart and great when the manufacturer Livinlite started making their campers with an all aluminum frame, aluminum floors and cabinets.

They could still be around but I heard they sold out to Forestriver or Thor so the quality could have gone way downhill like it did for the rest of the companies that sold out.

It did get down to 40° here in Midflorida last night. ( Tuesday) After hovering in the 80s last week this is cold. As to the alligators, my camp tonight (wensday) will be right next to Myakka State Park which is one of the alligator capitals of Florida. There are thousands there. I plan to stay far away from them as I can. I think I’d rather see a gator than to be in an area where I know they are and not see them then worry about where they might be. At least a rattlesnake has the decency to warn you he’s in the area. this camp is going to be my base for the whole winter so I recon I’ll see some gators. You know we have to put up with lots of things to have a free campsite right? I was told there’s so many around the park that they do have a roadkill occasionally. One time, during a tour operators convention in eastern Florida, I’ve visited gator world and we got to taste alligator. Some people say any food like that taste like chicken. This tasted like chicken that was soaked in the mud and Brine and yuck for a few years before it was fried. I think I said this before but if I fall down and the gator gets me do you think I’ll taste like chicken to him. And if I’m fishing here and catch a clown fish will that taste funny?

I spent the last several days in Pine craft park with several dozen Amish men playing shuffleboard. These guys have made a professional sport out of this. There is a guy who polishes and waxes the disks every day, he cleans the courts and spreads micro glass beads on them so that the pucks almost fly. So far my perfect record is intact I have not lost a game, I’ve been sitting and watching. I’m not the only one sitting around shooting the bull rather than shooting the puck.

So far in the Qartzsite South LTVA i have rarely heard coyotes, seen no scropions, taratulas or snakes, I did see a small beetle one day. . A couple of tmes I have had house flies but those too seem to be rare as I am not immediately adjacent to the toilets or trash where they can find regular meals and water around the faucets. One day I did see a small black beetle, but only that one time.

So for those with bug fobias dont worry so much about it at this time of year. Maybe they are around elsewhere but so far in the nearly 2 weeks stay I have not encountered them at this location, not even any ants of any type.

Cammalu, people did say I might get some condensation on the aluminim cabinet frames and that diid happen when I was on the wet Pacific coast in Late October and early November. I am gradually adfing some put some thin adhesive foam weather stripping on the frames inside the cabinets. But at present as you know, in Quartzsite I am not around any big box stores so it is something I would need to get shipped in to get an affordable price on it.

Going into Blythe soon but no big box stores there.

Looking forward to meeting you soon. Best wishes for a happy and safe journey.

there is a Smart and Final in Blythe. for a lot of things they are better than big box stores IMO. highdesertranger

I knew there had to be some good reason alligator meat isn't on the menu at any restaurant I've visited, not even those restaurants in Rockport, Texas.

I've tasted venison and rabbit and did not like those either. I'm mainly vegetarian anyway, 99.99% of the time.

Help! I know where to get a good deal on solar panels and all associated equipment. Now can someone tell me what kind of business I would need to approach to get someone to install those and my "fantastic" fan that has been in a box for a year?

For a big box store there is a Walmart in Parker, north of Quartzsite. Parker is about 35 miles from Quartzsite so just a little further than Blythe. And they have a surprisingly good selection of weather-stripping products. There's also a couple pretty good hardware/lumber type stores in Parker as well.

In Quartzsite it's too bad Herb's Hardware has closed, that store was a treasure. But since Herb's closed the Big Market on Main has really stepped it up and are doing a lot better with their hardware section. They would no doubt have weather-stripping items in stock.

Travel around. Even if I weren’t thousands of miles away I couldn’t help I need to get my fan in. First I got a buy it. So that one in the box if you’re looking to get rid of it you could donate it to some East Coaster. Just kidding I know you need it. My roof is fiberglass and I am very hesitant to pick just anybody to install that fan. I may do like JC and put it in the back window. I don’t know yet, got to have a couple hundred dollars to buy one first. And there are other things in line.

Not nearly as cold in Florida tonight. It feels quite quite comfortable in the van now. I did get to see a gator today a big one swimming but I was in the van moving down the road and didn’t get to take pictures. I did take pictures of blue herons great egrets snowy egrets and cattle egrets. This Myakka State Park is beautiful. Must be at least a half a dozen different kinds of palm trees and other vegetation that makes it almost look jungle like. The shadows under the dense forest are going to be good for some neat photography. Lots of black vultures today and some birds I didn’t ID yet. I’m buying the annual pass to the Florida State Parks so I don’t have to pay daily to get into them. Since I’m Have a place to stay close to the park I want to get to know the place a lot better. The better you know the ins and outs and the habits of the wildlife in a park even the direction of the sun at the right time of the day the better the photography. God bless the nomads wherever they may be.

Facebook group Nomads Helping Nomads. Working on peieoples projects in Ehrenberg in January. Sign up to the group and see if it suits you, if it does then talk about your needs and see what they say.. Husband and wife team running it. Social distancing is being required. I will most likely be participating as one of the helpers for some of the projects.
