How did you know she had 10 cats before you started talking to her? Were they lined up on the dasboard or was it the aroma wafting out of the van?

Got my 1st vaccine done! The other thing I got today is fed up with all this wind. Checking the extended weather forecast it looks to be a lot nicer weather further east towards Tucson. I think I should go do some adventuring as soon as I can open up my car to take a bunch of stuff out of it do some cleaning, sorting and also downsizing.

I might have to come back in 3 weeks to get my 2nd shot but that is doable if necessary.

Going where the wind does not blow (on) me :)

Bonus points, there will also be lumberyards and better hardware stores in that area.

What size of a cheap place are you looking for? How would we know if there was asbestos? Are you tired of traveling and ready to settle down?

Reminds me of a song...

You're sick of hangin' around and you'd like to travel
Get tired of travelin' and you want to settle down
I guess they can't revoke your soul for tryin'
Get out of the door and light out and look all around

I'm somewhat settled down in a tenuous way... but still want to travel. I expect you'd be more likely to find a one bedroom or studio home at $500 or less in a very small town. This town has a lot of derelict old housing - no guarantees of no asbestos. Inexpensive rentals used to be available hereabouts but we're having a serious housing shortage in this town right now.

Maybe you could find a room in someone else's home for that price. Possibly even a room with a private bathroom and outside private entryway. Check Craigslist!

Yes Maki. This wind is horrible.

I was in Q today at a quilt meet and hardly noticed at all. Once I got out of Q is when I could see the dust flying.

We are down to our last days here also. I get my second shot on Saturday and John gets his on the 1st. Then we are heading to Kentucky where I understand they just had a big rain.

I hope I don’t get stuck inside too much. If you head our way you have a spot to park.

Roadside there is an RV park in Quartzsite that has a few campers for rent. I don’t know what they would charge but since summer is heading this way you might be able to deal.

It’s called Shady Lane RV Park.

Shady Lane RV Park in Quartzsite - does it have trees? Somehow Quartzsite doesn't seem like shady place to me, but I've never been there so what do I know?

The RV park I'm staying at has a lot of shade trees. I hope they help me get through the summer.

Most of the trees on my property were burned. I'm researching fast-growing shrubs and trees. I'll miss the privacy I had from all the bushes and trees I had around the mobile home.

Yes, there are several RV parks in Quartzsite that rent trailers in the park for about $300. Asbestos is really only an issue when it is in a friable state where it is released into the air. Avoid doing remodeling work and you should be OK. If you rent a place with popcorn textured ceilings make sure it has been painted over and is not coming loose.

I would not want to buy a house with asbestos issues as I would be inclined towards doing remodeling and it is a nuisance to do all the masking, suiting up and containmment measures. But you are talking about renting so don't stress about it so much.

Actually in some areas of the country it is getting difficult to find someone certified to remove asbestos and therefore even more expensive. I ended up having someone from out of state come remove 2 short sections of water heater/furnace flu pipe at a cost of over $1200 in my mom's old house in eastern Kentucky!

I think shade trees annd a lot of shrubs on a lot in an area with high fire risk does not equate with the concept of keeping such things well away from the dwelling. A fire resistant carport and shade structure makes sense and can be put up in a few days. Of course it does cost a lot more to do that. But shade cloth on metal frames can also help with privacy control too at a lower cost. Quite a few people here in Quartzsite LTVA put up shade cloth structures for private, shady, wind blocking, sitting areas. The frames bolt and screw together.

It is easy to get locked back into making plans the traditionasl way most of us plan out our landscaping and housing. Diving into fire mitigation research is the way to change your mind so you don't fall back into the old ways of doing things. As you get older less yard work is way more sensible of a plan. Flowers and veggies in raised beds and planters mean less bending and less weeding. Lawn areas that can be quickly done with a riding mower are very sensible where there is good rainfall for grass.

As far as I know homeowners are still allowed to remove asbestos in their own homes. But of course someone who is feeble can't take on all remodeling work.

I renovated 5 houses of my own plus helped friends on others and hired out as labor on some others but never ran into asbestos on any of them.

The problem with asbestos is what you do with it once it you get it out as well as the removal. It has to be contained and labeled, most landfills will not accept it kowingly.

You would want to find out from the waste management company bedfore hand where to take if and how it has to be packaged. But fortunately for us full timers it is not an issue unless you are taking side jobs or helping friends and family wirh their houses or business locations.

OK my injection area gave me twinge of sore muscle pain. But not until I reached up high to get something. Mild headache coming on.. tired and achy too. But truthfully that tired and achy is because I forgot to put on a fleece shirt to sleep in. I got cold and then kept pulling on the blankets and woke up with them on the floor.  Cold sets off the arthritis pain.  The headache is most likely just sinus due to all the blowing dust in yesterday's windstorm.

All an excellent reason to have a very lazy day instead of sorting through the stuff in my tow vehicle. Weather looks good for Saturday and Sunday, I am going to procrastinate moving. Besides I have to figure out where good free camping is in the Tucson area. area. Maybe also ask on the Facebook Camp Together site to join others and make a few new acquaintances. I have some sightseeing to do while I am there plus some business contacts to make.

But first a drive to Ehrenberg today. I might rent a small storage space there for the next month so I have an easier time working on the build. Plus I have never seen the BLM camping near that town where a lot of gatherings happen. I want to go down by the river as well.

I heard from the shop that is rhino lining and painting my van. They will finish painting today! Took a second gallon of paint to cover the lining.

I get to pick it up Tuesday as I have to catch a ride there.

Then the fun (not) begins. Drop generator, tune, reinstall, install new SS sink and reinstall solar. Then I get to go through stuff and reload the van.

I am considering getting new batteries as mine are now 11 years old. Still contemplating but can't wait too long as I gotta get out of here soooon!

I'm most of the way done with my solo towing maiden voyage. I haven't ruined anything yet, though I did do a couple of dumb things and a stranger rescued me for one of them.

It's a good thing I have fulltiming and solo camping experience-- if I had to be a noob at the whole thing all at once... I think I would be a mess.

Tonight, I camp with 0 neighbors. : )

Go slow, take your time and make yourself a written checklist taped on your steering wheel so when you don't have somebody else to remind you you don't make dumb mistakes. Enjoy the ride. take lots of breaks and slowly walk around and check things so you don't have to worry. You have Your home with you there is no rush.

Doug -- I'll skip the movie, thanks! But I am thinking I'll have popcorn for dinner (for the 4th time in a week).

Froggie -- about going slow, I left Quartzsite Monday and my entire journey, when done, will have been all of 310 miles. I might take 'til Monday to finish! Heh.
