HDR, if you get me down in gulch to prospect can you call the helicopter to get me out?

I kinda get Yoga stretching and all that stuff but lifting weights is just weird, thats what I am trying to get away from doing that all my life, some people call it work.

I could never understand paying to go someplace to sweat.

If I am going to lift weight, it better be for a reason, like stacking firewood or building a house.  Reps mean using the splitting maul.  :D

the permit is free.  you can get it from the host at the LTVA when you get there.  all the info will be posted the closer we get.  last year the host wasn't there when RTR started,  but the ranger came around and issued permits.  funny thing they never got to me and I never got a permit.  the shade is overrated,  there is not much of it.  fortunately that time of year it's not that important.  actually last year we were praying for sun the first few days.  highdesertranger
Thx, the permit info is helpful. Due to a family holiday gathering I may not arrive til the day before RTR. Was wondering if I had to stand in line in Quartzsite to get a permit before finding my camping spot. Great to know they come to us!

Lol, I work at a physical job, but it's not THAT physical

I'd use the splitting maul too, these days there are 'underground strength' gyms where you do stuff that most folks call work

you guys do know, strength is a General Adaptation, and making yourself stronger will make whatever physical tasks you need to preform in the course of your day easier, right?
like, you know, when you need to lift that 73lb battery, it's easier if you're capable of lifting say 200lb, as opposed to being able to lift 100lb
in the one case, 73lb would be nearly 3/4 your possible lifting capacity, in the other, less than 1/2
strength, flexibility, cardio endurance, it doesn't matter, nature's law is 'use it or lose it'

Art you don't need to explain going to the gym to me. I was just kidding with you. you are more than welcome to come dig with us. highdesertranger

The hosts have hours posted at their stations. Many wait until the ranger makes their rounds to get their permits. It's kind of at your convenience and when the hosts are available, thing. No need to rush

Great to know, since I'll be arriving last minute and the area will be full of people. I lived in mtns outside Tucson, but never been to Quartzsite before. Don't know the lay of the land but will follow Bob's map to RTR site.

Didn't think I did, HDR, I just posted that for those who remarked on it, because conversation about differing opinions is valuable in gaining understanding of each other's viewpoints

Of course i coulda just said 'because they like to'
Folks who lift in a gym, do so for various reasons, improve sports performance, built an aesthetically pleasing physique, attain / maintain fitness goals, or just because they get a kick out of it
In my case it's a little bit as part of a fitness routine, and partly because, for whatever twisted reason, I like lifting heavy (to me) things
Maybe I'll bring a Kettlebell or two with me :D

Find a heavy rock or stone plenty available why carry a bunch of dumb weight when your done move on large rocks can rock your world and hands.

Trying to do, say, a Turkish getup with a big rock would rock something else besides your hands lol
but I get your point

Hello all,
I was wondering what you all do for firewood at the RTR?
I know you are in a desert, so is there firewood around where you camp, do you have to buy it at the local stores, or what?
Hubby was wondering about this, so I thought, Hmmm, better ask, before he asks again. LOL
So looking forward to this and want to be very prepared, or at least as prepared as I can be.
Thanks for any information.

Firewood is purchased from local venders.  It is against the law to burn the brush, or import firewood.

A bundle lasts a day or two for $5.

you are not allowed to burn any of the local vegetation(there is very little). you must bring your own firewood, they sell it in town. just a note, bringing your firewood is discouraged so you don't transport harmful insects. people do bring construction lumber like 2x4's, 4x4's, and such. but again make sure it is bug free and free of hardware(nails, screws, etc). highdesertranger

Thank you GotSmart!!!
I will pass this info along to the Hubby, so he can stop thinking about it. lol
:)

I can't seem to find the name of the place that has solar close to the rtr. I know Bob mentioned it but can't find it. I think it was call north solar or something similer. I'm just doing some research on what it would cost for a setup.
