    recliner v sofa

I use a wall away double recliner sofa in my RV. Took the dinette and the back breaking fold up RV couch out of the slide and put the sofa there. Weight ended up about the same, so no issues there. Using a sofa allows me to either sleep in the recliner or stretch out on the sofa.  Best of both...

Help plan an old school tow vehicle Ford 4.9 inline 6

These old motors are super reliable and produce plenty of power, and more importantly... torque. Another worthy upgrade is this distributor. https://performancedistributors.com/product/ford-duraspark-distributors/

Help plan an old school tow vehicle Ford 4.9 inline 6

eDL beat me to it. UPS used those engines for years, and they hauled the freight just fine.  I used to get there take outs and build them up for one of my race cars. Also, Clifford Research still offers 4 bbl manifolds for fords (and many others). https://cliffordperformance.net/store

Van life on a private lot, no dwelling no hookup. Legal challenges?

Having lived in Florida, I can tell you that you want to check with your county. I've only been in one other state (Ca.) that had as many if not more regulations. Hell, I had to get a permit to install new windows and a door in my house.  :(  As if that wasn't enough, I was even supposed to get...

    300 I6 Ford mods.

Back in the day, I raced a Ford 300 six banger on dirt. Bored .030 over which then fit a 351 Cleveland std. piston (2 barrel one, not the 4bbl, too much dome on that one) Just had to chuck in a lathe and shave about .010 off the top so it wouldn't protrude from the block. Ported the head, fitted...

    Schoolie: gas vs diesel

Ahhh gelling fuel. Reminds me of a time in a Vermont winter when some church people came north from the Carolina's for some kind of church deal. Parked the bus (MCI 6v92 silver devil) up on a mountain with the butt facing the wind with a 40 below wind chill. Next day, gelled fuel and no start. 2...

My Kirby crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Sorry for your loss. We have had so many rescues and sadly, their passing is part of life. This has been our motto for many years now, although we are down to only 7 at the moment.

    LTVA - Black Tank Question

Headache... you had it correct about Jake and the home made macerator. As soon as I found it, I made one and it worked great.  :)

    LTVA - Black Tank Question

If one needs to make an inexpensive macerator, just find an old garbage disposal unit.  :shy:

Is it unusually windy in SE New Mexico desert near Carlsbad Caverns

Have you considered the blm land in Lemitar NM?  You go north on I-25 to exit 156. make the left under the interstate and go right on the NW frontage rd. just follow that road until it dips back under the interstate at the northern end of town. (3-4 miles) Instead of going under the interstate...

    Not many schoolies here?

I can't imagine any box truck getting much better mileage. Now, I can't speak for the newer buses, but my older ones never got less than 10 mpg, and I've had enough of them to form an opinion. My bunch 1963 Dodge big block 318 and 5 speed w/2 speed rear 1965 Chevy 283/with granny low 4 speed...

buyer be a ware: Morningstar Sun Saver Duo

I've got to take the flip side of this issue. I've got a sunsaver duo in my motorhome, and it works flawlessly. right now It's set on 80-20. 80% to the aux. battery bank in the rear of the coach, and 20% to the 2 batteries that are the factory installed coach batteries. The factory coach...

    Strangest breakdowns

Closeanuf, It was a conventional movie theater, not a drive in. Fortunately the parking lot was gavel because when I popped the u-bolts, the car started to roll. I was able to push a small mound of gravel against the tire.  TMG51, I'll admit I felt a little bad about the driveshaft, but, I'll...

    Strangest breakdowns

Speaking about leaving that trailer, I have to tell you that I absolutely hate to give up on anything. A perfect example is the old rusty 54 Plymouth I had. The frame had broke and sheared the brake line, but, timing the stops on the old mountain road, I could downshift and bang along the...

    Strangest breakdowns

No sure it was the strangest, but, I left a single axle trailer in the center divider on I-10 just outside of El Paso. I was hauling my 34 Ford on an old single axle race car trailer with the axle welded to the frame to keep it low. I guess the welds let go and the axle twisted under the trailer...
