Hi all,
As some of you know, for the last couple of months, I've been inundating you all with endless questions about all things vanliving. Well, today I've taken the first major step and finally bought myself a van!!! It's a '92 Ford econoline 150 hi-top conversion van with only 127,000 miles on it. I took it to my trusted mechanic and he told me (after inspection) that the van was in great shape and to snatch it up. Well, after some haggling, I got her for $2700.

I can't stress enough that I am absolutely terrified that I have done such a drastic thing, yet I am also thrilled and excited at the same time. I'm so looking forward to living the adventure that you all are enjoying, yet also very uncertain about how this may turn out for me.

I've already begun the process of sorting out things that I want to get rid of and packing up things that I want to keep in storage. I had to stop the packing for a moment to write this post to you all.

I've done as much research as possible and have tried to see this lifestyle through your eyes, but it's still a very uneasy feeling to step out into the unknown like this. Thank you all for your advice and inspiration and wish me luck as I take my first steps into the uncertain future.

Take plenty of pictures, you are already on your way with a good solid van.

You'd be crazy(ier) if you weren't a little antsy about such a major change! I'm REALLY excited for you! Someone taking a step forward in this journey helps me to keep my eye on the prize and not give in to the frustration or challenges of finding the right vehicle/making the right choices and continuing my own preparations for going mobile!

Congratulations! I can't wait to see pictures and hear more about your vehicle and the build!

A song for inspiration

I wish you Good Luck, yamsack

But I also wish you SPEED. In Roman times, speed besides "luck or good fortune" had the wider meaning of "prosperity, profit, abundance"; it is not associated with the notion of probability or chance but rather with that of fate or divine help; a bestower of success can also be called speed.

Also remember, "God helps those who help themselves".

You have taken a good first step. Please let us know of your progress.

Bob (aka stude53)
Oh, I always hear "God speed", that means more than I realized, thanks.

Right on.... Lets see some pics. First thing is to drive it on the highway in windy conditions to see if the top makes it sway too much. If so, at least a rear sway bay is in order. Im assuming it will sway due to it being a half-ton model. Add your build weight and it could be an issue.

A rear sway bar setup from a junkyard (cheap & piece of cake to install) would help a ton.

Anyway, we're here for ya, no matter the location (internet permitting...lol)

Good luck

AJ

Post a pre-build photo so we know what you're working with - someone might have some ideas before you start.

Congrats Yamsack! That is excellent news! It is exciting and maybe a bit scary, but you have a lot of support here and I know things are going to go well! It is a wonderful lifestyle! It does take a little practice for most people, but it gets sorted out quickly and ends up being that much more fun for the process!

Looking forward to the pictures!
