I won’t deny that there have been times in my life when it was very comforting to know that suicide is always an option……..

I’ll grant that suicide by firearm to the head is a very efficient way of ending one’s life but Personally I think puttin a bullet in one’s head is just plain inconsiderate as hell to the people who have to pick you up and clean up the mess.

When I decide to go; for me anyway; set up a cheap pup tent; lay down the air mattress; have a full tank of gas and run a hose into the tent. Set the 12 hour time delay message to 911. Put some nice relaxing tunes on; make a nice gin & tonic; take some sleeping pills; lay down and aahhh, good night……

That’s my future for when I’ve decided I’ve had enough of the conscious lifestyle.

I just read (or skimmed) all the messages in this thread.

You all know I'm a Christian too but recently I had an experience that made me consider the importance of assisted suicide. I had a gall bladder attack - well, actually several. The pain lasts for about four hours and is excruciating. I could not help but think that if I had to live with that much pain all the time I'd rather be dead.

I am able to treat this by being careful about what and how I eat, so I'm not currently in pain, by the way. I will be getting imaging on this soon... have talked to a doctor already.

Anyhow, interesting thread about how to handle end of life issues as a vandweller. Of course I wouldn't opt for assisted suicide unless there was extremely bad pain that couldn't be managed with medication. But I would never tell someone else not to do it if they were in extreme pain. I think I've learned my lesson on that! Death is an option and we have a loving and forgiving God who understands pain.

I'm not currently traveling. I already bought a half-acre that I'm now living on (in a travel trailer) and I'd offer a trailer space to someone else eventually but... I'm 75 miles from the nearest hospital. There's a medical clinic in town and an ambulance service and mercy flight to a hospital in Oregon. I'm sure some elders wouldn't consider this situation adequate.

I'll probably be one of those die-hard forest dwellers who stays here up until the very end. A lot end up eventually being transferred to an elder-care facility out there in "civilization," and that will be their end-place.

Just a personal note about what I've done for gallbladder issues. I didn't have pain. It just stopped functioning and I had read about caster oil packs. I used one for several nights and the issue reversed. I've been diagnosed with two valves in my heart that leak backward causing several issues. Not getting any help from the normal MD and specialist MDs I went to a natural medicine doctor today. He offered natural things that I have reason to believe will reverse this issue and help me get back my active life style. Something maybe you could consider is seeing a natural medicine doctor. Their approach is to helping the body to heal itself, NOT symptom treatment or cut it out. AS a Christian myself I know scripture tells us God created trees, plants and herbs for food and medicine. Our western medicine system has not served us well for nearly 100 years except for, possibly antibiotics. Although, I have learned herbs, essential oils, can kill bacterial infections and things as simple as lemon, ginger and honey combined can reverse pneumonia before it get a hold on me. Nature provides cancer cures, also. Blessings sister.

If that’s the route you choose that is somewhat considerate. As a first responder I’ve seen the gun shots to the head, the hanging by a rope… all that… it weighs hard on you… especially when you know people personally. It leaves a mark that no matter how you sugar coat it you never forget these images… the body does it’s own thing too when your gone. So if your not found quickly it can be a bit of a deal too. So having that 911 call in effect helps that bit out some. We all pass on soon enough. I’ve seen first hand the result of suicide to loved ones. I’m not a fan of extending life either. Sure, doctor up when you can… but if your being kept alive so the hospital can make a few extra bucks… I don’t agree with that…

Sage.... would you please PM me the name of the natural medicine doctor? Thanks

(y) Probiotics and raw garlic are my go-tos for a lot of things. I was given enough antibiotics in my youth to last me a few lifetimes... no more.

I'm not overly fond of exhaust fumes... 😭

I hear that heroin is pretty fabulous, but hard to get now. I was given Demerol after a motorcycle accident a few decades ago... and was no longer feeling any pain. Also watched my mom die of cancer while dosing herself with morphine, and that seemed to go as well as could be expected. So my vote is for opiates...

Unfortunately, everything is cut with cheap Mexican fentanyl these days.

I received the info... thank you so much for your help.

Travelaround, I've looked at some of the land over by Klamath and was hesitant about pulling the trigger. It sounds like it might be working out for you? If so, I may be a neighbor in the near future.

Awesome - well, I'd love to know if you do come here... I'm in the middle of the Klamath National Forest. The area is spectacularly beautiful on a good day. The big drawback is we deal with annual forest fires that almost always leave a lot of smoke in our air. That's what is happening right now. We've had multiple lightning storms and even though there was precipitation, we've got a lot of small fires in the forest right now.

In 2020 about 9 months after I bought my 1/2 acre a forest fire started when a tree fell on a power line during a wind storm. Because of the wind the fire quickly traveled six miles through a populated area. I lost my home, my daughter lost her rental home, and my son, who lived across the street from me, lost the home he was renting a room in.

This was the first time a forest fire touched the town we live in, in recorded history, since 1850. However it has left me very fire-shy and when my new home is built I'm planning to surround it with a 30' circle of gravel. Others might do just as well with a 30' well maintained lawn, but that seems labor intensive compared to gravel and I'm getting too old to enjoy the thought of frequently mowing 1/2 acre.

Anyhow, keep forest fire safety in mind if you settle anywhere in this forest. We lost two people in our 2020 fire. Last year four people were lost in a fire closer to Yreka. This year a man perished when his house burned just very recently in the Head fire near Scott Bar.

Not trying to discourage you from coming here. Most people here are tough and steadfast and very attached to the area and are not planning to go anywhere else to live. Newcomers are welcome!

I'm a big believer in natural medicine and wish there was a local practitioner but as I live in the middle of a big forest I just go to the local clinic, and consult Dr. Internet for natural remedy advice. I hear you about needing to regain an active life style. I had problems walking for 18 months because of plantar fasciitis and am only just now getting past that.

I read an article saying gas vehicles with cat converters it's almost impossible to gas yourself. Just what I read. Judge Not that you may not be Judged.

TA, Thanks for the welcome.

My dad was a forest ranger and smoke jumper in his younger years. So, when he decided to build a house, he made it out of cinder blocks with a Spanish tile roof. Fire was never far from our minds. It does seems to have gotten much worse in recent years though. :(

Right now I am camped on my daughter's property near Florence while I complete my switch from a trailer to a van. Once that's done I plan to go check out the property over that way.

That sounds like a good strategy. But I was surprised what burned in the fires here. The Klamath River, CA post office was built with mainly cinder blocks I think - and it burned, but not entirely. They rebuilt it quickly.

My neighbor had a metal roof, which insurance companies prefer I hear, but that house burned. Another neighbor had a metal shipping container - everything in that burned. But two doors from me there was a mobile home with a well-maintained green lawn, and that made it through the fire just fine. Another trailer with sheds surrounded by green well-maintained lawns right across the street survived the fire right next door to the house my son lived in which burned.

I'm lucky to be getting another house here and I'm going to be fanatical about giving it the best chance to survive a fire. My former mobile home burned but it was touching a huge apple tree and surrounded by bushes and a few other trees that burned. Plus my front yard has never had a lawn - it is just meadow weeds and wildflowers. If I water it only the wildflower and weeds grow - and there's no green grass there this time of year. I'm going to have a lot of work to do.

Amazon sells a full-face respirator mask for about $100. It would be easy enough to insert a piece of vinyl tubing through one of the filter openings. Attach a 400L canister of helium when you’re ready to remove yourself from the census. No CO2 buildup to cause frantic breathing, you lose consciousness very quickly, irreversible death in a matter of minutes.

A small tent might work butbwould require a lot more helium.

Hence; the sleeping pills and 2 or 3 (4 or 5?) gin & tonix r 4. They nok me out; the CO2 finishes me off. 💤

No fuss; no muss and I don’t need to run around tryin to find illegal and/or prescribed drugs.
My cheap & easy exit 2 cap off my cheap & easy life 👍🏼😎🤙
