Last update for now:
-The 300 Watt solar combined with the Battery Isolator for charging while driving has really done well for us. Our modified dorm fridge runs 24/7 and barely puts a dent in our 200aH battery bank, and we have yet to ever discharge our batteries below 12.3 volts. We've even run a RoadPro electric blanket all night while camping in 14 degree weather on a trip! We may add an additional 100aH battery soon, but quite honestly we haven't really even outgrown 200aH with our recreational use
- The modified/hybrid fridge is going on 14 months and thousands of miles of travel with zero issues at all. It always works perfectly, even with some pretty severe off-road use, and a lot of time at some pretty crazy angles.
- We've seen so many places in our van that simply could not be accessed with a large RV. We've done some very aggressive off-roading in it too (not quite on purpose, but be got lost in the mountains and ended up on a logging trail for over an hour - driving through tracked crawler ruts and mud with no option to turn around). I will never travel in a large RV again, we are so mobile and can literally get anywhere in our van without issue
- We bought an SUV tent that we use while traveling with the kids. It's not quite made for a high-top van, but with some experimentation we've got a pretty good fit to the rear of the van. This lets us all sleep in the same space and gives us 7' standing height to have more options in inclimate weather
