I read this thread yesterday..enjoyed your style, and vicariously through your eyes experienced your up and down trials of working to move into the nomadic life.( I am experienced camper and have tent etc.)and hope my car will last long enough to do that..running fine now but mechanic said some oil leaking on one side of head gasket. I will have to find homes for my kitty cats, ( very hard to think about that) considering keeping my bird ( do not know how difficult that would be) I also have chronic pain disorder that can flare very badly. So weighing pros and cons carefully.

:) Hello and Welcome to the forums.  I'm going to sell all my stuff and live in a van, sounds ez if said fast enough.  Then for me life stepped in...reminded me of a number of things...my age and declining health being 2 of them.....I still intend to do a tremendous downsizing and become nomadic if only weeks or a few months at a time.  It is taking me way longer than I thought it would,  however I refuse to change my goals at this time.

You are lucky in that you have some camping experience and some gear.  I'm unfamiliar with the type of vehicle you have...I'll have to google it. Is it big enough to stretch out in?  My Ranger had a leaking head gasket and rear engine seal.  I'd tell folks it had a self changing oil system  I'd pour oil in the top of the engine and it leaked out the bottom  :D

I'm sure it will be hard on you to rehome your pets.  The main thing about Queenie my Chihuahua as with any other critters we travel with is the heat and cold.

I'm very grateful that getting rid of extra items and considering becoming a vehicle dweller is a choice I can make and not one being forced on me by a unsafe place to live or not having the funds to maintain even a simple lifestyle, as has happened to many others these days.

Jewellann, you are ever so gracious when dealing with so much. After 6 months of seeing a doctor that thought that take these pills and come back in 6 weeks was going to fix the ruptured and slipped disk in my back, she sat down next to me, patted my knee and said I am concerned that you are not getting better. I patted her knee right back and said that I was concerned she wasn't doing anything.
Thank You for the kind words.  Your post gave me the first true smile I've had in days.  It reminded me of the sports orthopedic surgeon who did my carpal tunnel surgery years ago.  After weeks of pain meds, anti-inflamatory meds, And PT.  He picked up my left hand and asked "when are we going to fix this hand"?  In the same sugary sweet tone as his I replied "Just as soon as you completely fix the other one that you've started on."  We called it quits soon after.

I don't want you to get your hopes up!  I don't think Q knows she is a dog. You might have to bring flowers, sweets and boiled peanuts to win her over. She hears "your a good girl" "your Mama's sweet baby"  " Oh you're in trouble now...do you know trouble? he sure knows you!" She's a hard nut to crack.  I think that's the "nurture" I've given her and not the nature she was born with.  Then she always seemed to have an attitude even when a pup......sorta don't mess with me unless invited?

There are so many of us that "ain't right" pretty soon we will we become the "normal" in society.  Bet that will scare the CRAP out of some folks  ROFLMAO   :D

:-/ WE'RE BACK.  I think.  After days of rain, seemly no forward progress on anything, stress related to 2 different family situations one of which I spent $600 on, 2 trips to out of state airport, 1 night sleeping in short term parking lot and a few other road bumps...The Safari went in the shop Monday and Queenie and I retired to our boudoir and bed.  Where we have stayed except for a few visits outdoor for necessities.

Called the shop @4pm Monday....closed.  Called this am...we're working on it.  Called 4pm today....maybe mid morning on Wed.  Q and I are staying in bed...AC..2 fans......TV +300 dvd's, WiFi, and a phone I never answer.  I'm not overly fond of my world right now so I'm into Ostrich Mode.....If I can't see it it ain't there.

Tomorrow is another day....I hope.

Well , your life sure ain't boring!

(I'll add some boiled peanuts to my pantry,,,,maybe a tiny kong and some bacon sticks too. I have some experience with those tiny mexicans....)

You might have to bring flowers, sweets and boiled peanuts to win her over.

Just who is being won over here?

       :-/  Sometimes boring is good!!
At 2am my "little " sweetie woke me up.  No she doesn't want water...no she doesn't want to get down... she wants to play mount vesuvius....again this week.  I was ready for her with a folded towel...much easier to clean that stripping the complete bed.  By the way this "little" one weighs in at just over 13lbs.........feels like 20 when she's doing her happy dance on my ribs to wake me up, which I'm glad she did...now she's gone back to bed under the covers.  Ol' Spolit Thang :D

Jewellann

That's just too funny ! (At least from here....)
Too many boiled peanuts ? Or was it a jelly donut ?

Well here we sit.....mid morning call to get the Safari=not ready call later...2pm call not ready.."do you have a ride?, it might be ready around 5pm.....I was so close to replying " yes  I have a ride, IT'S BEEN IN YOUR SHOP 3 DAYS NOW!!!!!!"

The only thing I've accomplished today is get the trash out, wash dishes, wash throw rugs, take care of Q, & eat a can of chili.

I keep asking ARE WE HAVING FUN YET.with never a peep for a reply.
Many years ago I heard that when we pray for something and do not get it, to not think our prayer wasn't answered......No, even a silent one can also be an answer. I think that's true because I question myself a lot.....sometimes I do not hear a reply. See sometimes I don't talk back to myself.
Now I'll probably get kicked out of the........you know what club.....shhhhh :dodgy:

Jewellann

If it's the club I am thinking of...NOT A CHANCE LADY! Keep dreaming. :p

Forget it Jewellann. With that post, you've just firmly planted yourself in the club so deep you couldn't shovel yourself out with a bulldozer.

I don't think any such thing.
Now , I'm thinking that mechanic might qualify though.

:)  At 4:30pm I got the {yes it's ready to go}  My sister dropped me off at the shop.  The first conversation was with the older guy who I think is the owner of the joint. He sez "I have a bill here for you"  WHAT FOR? "The repair we just did on the AC, that wasn't part of the original deal".  YES SIR IT WAS. THE AC BEING FIXED WAS TOO ON THE LIST. ONLY IF IT NEEDED A COMPRESSOR WOULD THERE BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE.  "Do you have the list?"  SOMEWHERE, THAT WAS MONTHS AGO.  He laid the bill to the side.

Got with Lon the mechanic......he sez those back doors are really working good, locking/unlocking/opening right up......... the Ac will freeze you out........ no charge for the oil sensor the gauge is still hopping around...... put that new electrical thingy in to fix the shorts [he didn't say that, I can't remember what he called it now]
AND IT BURNT RIGHT UP        :(

I KNOW FOR SURE THIS AIN'T LIKE NOOOOO FUN I'VE EVER HAD AND IT AIN'T RIGHT EITHER :-/

I am not giving up.  I wonder what kind of trade in I might get for the Safari?

I decided on the way home that I'm pulling out the new clear plastic totes, emptying out the good Rubbermaid clothes baskets and
I'M SORTING AND PACKING JUST LIKE I"M GOING ON A LONG TRIP...... COME HELL OR HIGH WATER AS PAPA USED TO SAY.           :(  I'VE ENJOYED ABOUT ALL OF THIS I CAN STAND!!!  :s

Jewellann...What's left of me

:) I found your sign today              WORK LIKE A CAPTAIN
                                                                     PARTY
                                                               LIKE A PIRATE

Dang, Jewellann, that has got to be about as annoying a thing I can think of. It makes cars seem more like magic to me that ever before, if a trained mechanic can't find stuff and fix it, what the hell!

Sounds discouraging , keep your eye on the prize though.
I wish I was able to look at it , wires are my life.
