I NEED my...microwave, big screen tv, stereo with subwoofer, wifi everyone I could possibly go, laptop, tablet, smartphones, shower, hot tub, hot water tank...no you don't, those are luxuries, not must haves.

Testicles, spectacles, wallet, and keys. Somewhere, there's a fifth of booze.

I can't believe all the tech stuff as must haves.  what would everybody have done 30 years ago.  I find tech helpful, but must have no.  highdesertranger

30 years ago the folks with the high tech stuff as must haves may have been kids being groomed with the stuff. Grandma Gatewood walked the Appalachian Trail more than once with a rucksack & sneakers, but they're using high tech stuff now (except the Barefoot Sisters) The times are achangin'.

I'm with ya on the first three but you can have the last one...

Mod Edit, the above link is a song by John Lee Hooker, "Whiskey and wimmen". please everybody include a description with your links.

Yea. I guess that is right. If I carried paperback books, I could burn them for coffee water.

a lot of what others have mentioned as being needs for them are not absolutely necessary for me...
at this point in time my needs are simple:

a solid roof over my head (as in Van)

food for my belly ( which could be cut back on as I am wider than I should be for my shortness)

water for tea, cocoa, and other asst. uses

good weather for traveling(absolutely no ice or snow allowed, rain is doable but lightning is not appreciated)

and the Good Book for guidance

To pass the time this holiday week for some of us not yet on the road please consider sharing your Top Five "must have" camping items.

Besides a tent/rv/shelter, sleeping bag/bedding, basic food with eating/drinking utensils and a camp chair, what are your Top 5 “can’t camp without” items or luxuries?

Mine are:

  1. Cooler/fridge.
  2. Head lamp.
  3. Air or foam mattress, or cot.
  4. Solar shower bag.
  5. Wine/book.

My reasons for these items can be found here on the tagalongvagabond blog: https://wp.me/p9cg95-5N
Please comment here and/or there with YOUR must have list!

Note: Pets are not items, they are almost human and their inclusion goes without sayin! Also, I am in a tent so do not have built in fridges or beds - you don't have to count items as "must have" if they are already part of your rig!
Five? OK.
