To pass the time this holiday week for some of us not yet on the road please consider sharing your Top Five "must have" camping items.

Besides a tent/rv/shelter, sleeping bag/bedding, basic food with eating/drinking utensils and a camp chair, what are your Top 5 “can’t camp without” items or luxuries?

Mine are:

  1. Cooler/fridge.
  2. Head lamp.
  3. Air or foam mattress, or cot.
  4. Solar shower bag.
  5. Wine/book.

My reasons for these items can be found here on the tagalongvagabond blog: https://wp.me/p9cg95-5N
Please comment here and/or there with YOUR must have list!

Note: Pets are not items, they are almost human and their inclusion goes without sayin! Also, I am in a tent so do not have built in fridges or beds - you don't have to count items as "must have" if they are already part of your rig!

1) Coffee.  2) Kettle to heat water in.  3) Propane stove to heat the kettle.  4) Aeropress to run the hot water through the coffee grounds.  5) Filters for the aeropress.

The stove and kettle have other uses too.

lol- coffee is clearly your priority! thanks for playing along :)

Good sleeping arrangement ( Thermarest or 4" foam in a cheap sleeping bag or both) and lots of quilts
Wave III heater and 20lb propane bottle
Ryobi 18 volt lights and fan with extra batteries and car charger
Separating/composting toliet (C-Head)
Internet device with booster 12volt chargeable

My laptop is far and away the most vital thing I have. It gives me ideas about places to see, it gives me TV shows and movies and documentaries to watch, it keeps me in touch with everyone, it lets me store all my photos, and it lets me do my job on the road.

Although not a "Must Have" I enjoy having a pair of binoculars along. The pair that I carry, Pentax Papilio,  focus down to 18" so they allow me to view distant and near objects (like a stereo 8.5 power microscope). I even use them in museums to see details while staying behind barriers or like a magnifying glass.

I use the zoom lens on my camera for the same purpose.  It's like a built-in binoc. :)

Lantern
Hatchet
Plenty of tie downs

That's three, I'll think of two more later.

Generator, electronics with internet, toilet, ice tea, and heater. These are not in order.

These are all my must haves
laptop
internet
perfume
shower
food

I'm a bibliophile, but I do like my "Paperwhite". I tried a Fire. But for reading the paper-white is better, and my 1000 volumes do not take up very much room.

coffee, bourbon, google machine and mobile wifi, book, wool socks.

In this order: WiFi, laptop, cell phone, a comfy full size bed, and spotify.

Most of you people are way too connected to have a life! Ha!

I can't believe all the tech stuff as must haves. what would everybody have done 30 years ago. I find tech helpful, but must have no. highdesertranger
