Another, somewhat positive, way to see "The American Dream" is that it has provided many stealth car/van dwelling opportunities. Local tax systems have subsidized living in the suburbs. The subsidy by the general taxpayer of roads and parking caused us to become dependent on cars. This gave rise to lots of roads and millions of acres of asphalt parking areas. These cannot all be policed, even if laws are passed against sleeping in vehicles.   Since you helped pay for these parking lots, take advantage.
