I was planning on it, but it was cloudy. In S NM I doubt it would have been visible, but who knows...

Where are you?
Michigan. Cloudy now but clearing is forecast again for this evening and thru the night. So maybe I’ll get another viewing again 2nite.

Apparently the trick is to take pictures or view it through your camera, as cameras are better at seeing it than human eyes are. I saw faint red last night but wasn’t aware of the camera trick. I’ll be trying again tonight!

The city of Flagstaff is a dark sky city. They have an observatory open to the public and host star parties.
The Grand Canyon National Park is designated as dark sky so is the adjacent town of Tusayan. There are star parties pretty much every week all summer long in the South Rim area of the park with telescopes to look through. Great place to go camping all summer. Although the South side of the Canyon area gets pretty hot into the 90s a lot of days in July and August. Also that is monsoon rains season so lots of thunderstorms, most afternoons. But not always cloud cover at night. Those storm clouds form and then can dissipate as the temperature cools off. It’s iffy star viewing, not 100% reliable. But the high elevation makes it excellent when the weather is clear.
