Hello all!

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster here at Cheaprvliving. Most of you probably have conversion vans and RV's of some sort, yes? I got chucked in the deep end, and have had to start living in my car. I've been doing this for three weeks. It's not a very large car either. It's a coupe. Three doors and an extremely limited amount of space.

My plans are to find a van of some sort once this car is paid off. Haven't quite decided whether I want a high roof or mid roof vehicle, but for now that doesn't really matter.

Long story short, I had a disagreement (no violence, not even any shouting) with my old flatmate, and can no longer live under the same roof. I also have no desire or ability to pay rent to anyone.

So here I am, hangin' out in my car, with a pillow, a laptop and an internet connected phone!

It really is great to be here.

Welcome from New Mexico Urbanwanderer. Glad to have you with us....
Bri

Hi , and welcome. Nope, your not alone. Wolf lives in a toyota corrola, and Butternut (who has a blog, btw) lived and traveled in a prius 6 months at a time. And tge vandwellers forum founder started off in an 80's ford festiva- now thats TINY.

Welcome! I currently live in a 91 Corolla. I have made it fairly cozy, but still need a few things... Does your rear seat fold flat? It maybe more livable if you can make a bed, with your feet in the trunk. Maybe take the passenger seat out, for extra room (store it, in case you decide to sale).

I'm so glad to hear that other people have fallen in to vehicular living, rather than planned it. It was quite a shock when I had everything taken from me. Thankfully I've been able to lurk here for quite some time before my 'Australian dream' fell apart. Now I have the opportunity to live a new one on my own terms this time.

bk2valve, thank you. I hail from the east coast of Australia. Again, it's an absolute joy to be here!

Lostinspace, As soon as I pay off that car, my debt to family (way less than the car, thankfully) I'll upgrade to something bigger. As I said, have no clue yet, but I'll tackle that decision when the time comes! I am a dude, so one particular daily chore is a whole lot easier for me than some

Mortisha, thanks for the welcome! =3

Les H, You're kidding, right? 1991 AE92 bubble-butt corolla? I used to own one of those. I suddenly regret selling it! I'll check out that blog when I get a chance. Compact living is a definite when you're in a Prius! A Festiva? I thought I had no storage/spreadout space. That's incredible!

Niall, I used to have the same (or a very similar) car. Unfortunately, my current ride doesn't have a fold-down rear seat. I unscrewed it, though. I could lie flat on a diagonal if I took that seat out and built something that could sit over the center console. My legs would be sticking into the trunk which is full at the moment, but with no passenger seat stuff could be moved around a little.

Thank you all for making me feel welcome. It's nice to know that there are other people out there in similar living circumstances to me.

A bit late to the party, but glad you found us!
I'm hoping to sell my Kia Rio before I have to move into it, but with my boss/ landlord, you never know

Hello and welcome to the group.

I've been sleeping in my van (2007 Chevy Express) for almost two years. I love it. If it ever dies, I'll sleep in any dang thing with four wheels... 3 wheels if you count a Skoda car.

I hope all works out for you well. Take care and enjoy yourself. If you can get comfortable, you just cannot beat the feeling of independence.

Brad aka "Van Trekker"

welcome .... blkjak

It will be more comfortable to sleep with your back towards the driver's side door and your knees across and over the center console...so you're sideways in a folded position. The key to make it comfortable is one of those bean bag pillow that quickly conforms to tight spaces to support your neck and and upper back...then a decent pillow for the rest of your back.

I sleep in my car a lot, because right after lunch, I need a 10-15 min nap or else I can't function. I've slept for hours to full nights on long trips before like this, and it's much better than reclining the seat back as your leg room is limited....but the knees over the console, it feels more natural (like sleeping in a reclining chair). My cars is a Pontiac Trans Am, which I'm sure has much less space than your coupe....my car is extremely tight and confining inside.
