ok...  I have a 2007 Ford F150 4x4 and a new Keystone Passport 25RB.  Perfect combo for camping.  Both are paid for, and the Ford has 60K original miles.

I also have a 2018 Jeep Wangler that is a great toad.  Everything is paid for.

I'm wanting to hit the road, but conflicted.  Should I go with the pick-up and TT or swap the Pick-up and TT for a class C and tow the Jeep?

Very interested in all opinions and your reasons.  Thanks so much.  I'm 69, so I don't have a lot of years left, and want to spend them free.  Thanks!

My opinion, I tried a class c and the repairs on it were outrageous. It was VERY noisy going down the road with squeaks and all the interior frame wiggling around.

I have a small travel trailer towed by a diesel truck and am very pleased with it in every way.

Every person like's something different.

Not sure if you travel with pets...a mate/partner??
I used to like a trailer for myself.
Put Mrs G, a Rottweiler, three Shelties and a cat on board...and a motorhome was the only answer.
A trailer and pickup are no different than a motorhome. You have the same components. They all break.
That said, you already own what you own. If it works for you and you are comfy...why make waves?
What I find positive about my Class A...is pulling into a WalMart @ 2am and walking into the bed in pouring rain.
I am also able to tow a 30MPG station wagon on the trailer, instead of a 17MPG pickup being my only transportation.
Doing that math was the turning point.
We drive a heck of a lot more with the car than the RV.
Swap a 29 foot trailer for our 32 foot class A and it would mean a 3/4 ton truck.
This would mean every trip to the store, sight seeing...etc, would be about double the price.
Not to mention burning up big tires/drivetrain instead of the 4 cylinder Camry with common, low cost tires...ease of parking, ease for Mrs G to drive...etc.
We also have two vehicles that drive down the road. When the second fuel filter plugged up on the class A, I unloaded the car and chased one down.
Instead of sitting there, prey for road service overpriced BS, I had it fixed and running in less than 2 hours myself.
If I found myself suddenly single, I think I would put together something like the 17,000 mile diesel step van I currently have listed in the trading post.
That way, I could build out exactly what I wanted inside.
A leaky roof TT is easy for me to get a little help cannibalizing for tanks/appliances/goodies...and I would flat tow a small standard shift pickup truck or standard shift car.
Something that could get 30MPG.
Are you one of the guys who makes camp and stays there? Or do you take off every day and drive hundreds of miles on a whim?
Of course, you can buy a lot of fuel for $10K.
Your pickup or the Jeep could be flat-towed.
How many miles are you going to drive??? That is the real question.

I looked at several Class A motorhomes, but didn't want 6 mpg so I went with a Cummins diesel pickup that gets about 25-mpg empty.

I can unhook my little 21' travel trailer in a couple of minutes and be gone.

There's some good and some bad about every RV made.

Thats easy for me to answer.....but what do i know....lol
i would get the class C and tow the Jeep.  They say jeep is the best towing vehicle.  But the reason is, you are using all your paid vehicles to their best ability.  You obviously were smart to pay for them all, so use them all.....get rid of the truck and camper, but a class c and tow.....but that's just me.   I have a minivan....and am lucky to have that ....:)  best of luck...let me know what you do....see you out there  :)

If it were my choice I think I'd stick with the truck + TT.  And I'd sell the Jeep (crying hard) to pay for the first year on the road.

During my research phase I was shocked at how poorly Class C RVs were built. The one great Class C builder, Born Free, went belly up last year (more crying).

Why not try out the pick-up and TT and store the Jeep for six months or so?  See how you like it, then make your decision.  So many people change their living quarters after a while.  It is the only way to see whether it works for you or not.

Thank you all for your replies.  As I look them over, the one that makes the most sense is from Rolling BnB.  No need to leap into something else before I test out what I have.  I was a little concerned about towing the TT in some of those desert spots in the Southwest, but my pick-up is a 4x4 so that should help.  As for the mileage issue, I'm pretty content to stay put as much as possible.  Not one to be on the run that much.  After I've tried this out for a while I figure I'll be in a better position to decide on a longer term solution.  I see pros and cons in all options.

Thanks again for your responses.

Now for the courage to get off the porch and join the big dogs...  :s
