or they could use this trailer

IMG_1842 - Copy.JPG
I could not find any type of ID on this trailer what so ever.  the inside was so full of junk it was literally falling out the door.  any ideas?

IMG_1844 - Copy.JPG
Indoor plumbing.  um I will use the outdoors,  indoor toilets are overrated.

IMG_1846 - Copy.JPG
indoor kitchen,  now that might come in handy

IMG_1856 - Copy.JPG
we ran across these in a few locations.  same MO tire hanging on a tree with the same thing written on it.  I have researched a little and came up empty, odd.

IMG_1859 - Copy.JPG

I think that it's a retort.

yeah I think you could get one of those trucks running just because there are so many parts. see upcoming workshop pics.

With hydro electric power cheap and available I’m guessing with the material hopper, all the electrical masts which could feed electrodes and a stack at the end maybe an electric smelter of some sort for something with a low melting point like lead?

another miners shack.  this one a little more modern and in a little better shape,

IMG_1811 - Copy.JPG
well maybe just a little better

IMG_1815 - Copy.JPG

IMG_1828 - Copy.JPG

Cool pictures. I wonder when the miner shacks were last used. One of them (picture of the kitchen) looks like it could have been used as late as the 60's or 70's.

that would be my guess too, 60's to 70's. the Nevada back country was a far different place back then. boy I could tell some stories. highdesertranger

When I was a kid in the Las Vegas area in the 50's, the desert had many small abandoned shacks (10 x 15 ft. or so), built by homesteaders to establish their claims on land. It was fascinating to wander inside the shacks. They had  ramshackle furniture and magazines dating back to the 1920s, preserved in good condition by the dry desert climate. Also common were rock cairns, often containing tin cans or glass jars with handwritten mining claims.

here we go with more pics, a whole series of misc. pictures,

IMG_1871 - Copy.JPG
sure is a lonely place for an old gangster car

IMG_1881.JPG

Very cool stuff you're seeing, HDR. Living the dream!

weather is changing again.  I have never seen it rain this much in the high desert.  at least once a week we were getting rained on.  this made for some beautiful sunsets and some fierce wind storms,

IMG_1891.JPG
that dry lake bed is at least ten miles away.  the wind is really blowing down there

IMG_1899.JPG
you can see the clouds are starting to move in.

IMG_1908.JPG
looking the other way down the valley at some sand dunes.  now there is a haze in the air.  it will be raining in a couple of hours.

IMG_1888.JPG
this is what is coming up behind us.

IMG_1953.JPG
it's getting darker.

thanks VanFan.  some more miner shacks,

IMG_1941.JPG
a spring and a shack in the middle of nowhere.

IMG_1944.JPG
I hate graffiti.  it's one of the few things I actually hate.  why do people feel the need to do this?

IMG_1959.JPG
this is one of the nicest cabins I have ever seen.

IMG_1961.JPG
it's rodent proof

IMG_1963.JPG
I knew the old guy who lived here last.  when he lived here this cabin was an oasis in the middle of nowhere.  there was a bed,  a TV on the wall with a DVD player with a bunch of DVD's on a shelf.  there was running water in the sink,  with a drain.  it was plumbed for propane the propane lights and refrigerator are still there.  it had an outdoor shower with a solar water heater,  worked great.  I am assuming the old man has passed as he was at least 150 years old when I met him.  his grandson,  a middle east war vet would be out there often spending time with gramps.  great people.

I just love the smell of freshly rained on sage brush.  it's one of those things that makes you count your blessings and to be glad you are alive.
