I've used the Berkey regular Water filter (4/5 gallons) for YEARS.  Frankly, I believe it has a huge impact on how I'm so old and still pretty healthy. : No prescriptions, never have to see a doctor, etc. 

I was concerned about my future van dwelling and filtering my water in TINY mode. Not any more!!!! YAY!!  The good part is, I need filters anyway and that's over half the price of the little travel one.

It'll also fit nicely into my 'Granny Cabin' when I get it done, cause let's face it - I'm Really TIRED of my big one having to sit in my RV's bedroom desk, since it's too big for the kitchen cabinet/counters!

It always gives me such peace of mind when our little private water company sends out notices they received from the state's regulatory system they're trying to comply with!

I've been using the Travel Berkey with black and fluoride filters for about 2 years now.   It's a great system and fits nicely on my counter top when parked.  I have to move and empty it for travel, but that's OK with me.

The only negative I can say about the black filters is that once they clog up, they are never the same as far as the flow rate is concerned.  I've cleaned them per the instructions and they work well for a week or so, then clog again.   I run only tap water trough them, so it's not foreign matter clogging them.  Don't believe the hype about the quantity of water they can process in a given time.  Won't happen in real life, however they do a good job and overall I'm satisfied with this product.

I didn't realize they made this smaller size either. I know of Berkey from all the research I did on primitive survival for my novels. Most "preppers" love the system as it filters to purify (has "all the nines").

If I recall properly, there was another thread on here recently about what sort of backup folks keep on board to be able to use water from nature in an emergency. Hope those folks find this.

I LOVE my 10 yr. or so Berkey AND.. speaking of those filters,, yes they do get slower w/time and more use HOWEVER, this last 4-5 months, I just got stubborn(when it slowed, etc) because I didn't want to have to spend that $150 for those filters SOOOo....

I noticed that I could fill the top completely up and the 'newer' less used top half of the filters still go just fine. Not as fast as new ones, but I just keep it full and get my gallon or so for my iced tea, and I'm good. (In other words: the bottom half of the filters is clogged, with time) So now I'm using up the REST of the filters. Not so sure what the fluoride filters are thinking, but hey.. they're still dripping the water thru, and I'm still alive! lol

FYI for those who may be wondering, I have average 1-2 gals. a day, and only purchase new filters aprox. annually.

Now.. on to figure out how to live w/o filtered ice.. lol

Your use reflects less than 750 gallons per year, which is WAY less than they claim it can do.  Typical sales hype.

I agree, I like the product, but would like to see changes in their advertising and design.

It's been longer than a years since I purchased last time, and eh... I probably use more than I think AND.. I'll probably go another year using 'the other half'!

Do NOT go by my approximations on use figures!  I feel there has never been any 'hype' w/Berkey.  An excellent product and an excellent company.

And?? YES! It WOULD be a cool idea to make those filters 'flipable'.

ANYWAY... I let my Berkey completely empty before I completely refill it. That avoids the half filter use issue.

IN OTHER WORDS: Don't half fill your water filters! Wait til they are empty (if worried about having water.. just fill up some mason jars) to refill fully.

That Travel version looks excellent, it's so lovely that I want one even though I don't actually have a need for it.

Wanting to always have access to potable water, but being very limited on space, I bought a Katadyn Pocket Filter and a Katadyn Survivor 06-LL Desalinator.

These two devices ensure that I'll be able to access potable water virtually anywhere there's a body of water, irrespective of its type or condition.
