After reading another discussion I am starting to think that a very cool ideal is to create a shower toilet quick tent. Something as tall as possible. That sets up quickly (pop open tent?). Don't care if it's waterproof completely. Get a child's inflatable pool inside. Rig a lightweight shower curtain inside. Hose from a five gallon bucket and instant heater. Sure it's a gray water solution. But it's a great external private bathroom area.

Complement to your van-car system.

offroad,

From pics of the RTRs, Bob has set up a privacy toilet tent for others to use -- and it is in his "Store" section above.

I have a different model but do not have the brand name handy. I"m not sure the company is still in business anyway. But when you go to Amazon via Bob's link, you can then look at similar versions or do a search on pop-up privacy tents.

Mine is a true pop-up in that it folds down into a large (maybe 30" circle) that is just a few inches thick and slides into a round carry bag. It is fairly heavy but that means it is fairly heavy-duty as well. It is quite large compared to some of the "changing" pop-up tents (I have one of those and it is ok but not sturdy). Mine has no external structure outside the tent fabric (the supports are sewn in).

None of these tents will hold up a solar shower bag filled with water. I would set my tent up right against a place on my van I could hang my solar shower or next to a tree where I could hang my bag. There is a zippered opening for bringing in a shower hose. I will have the solar bag problem solved when I hit the road next year, because I have a pressurized weed sprayer that will sit on the ground.

Kiddie pools that I found were all too large if they were rigid plastic. The blow up pools that come in 3 foot diameter would likely not hold up unless you only use it on grass. I found an old clear plastic storage bin that is not tall but is more than wide enough to stand in. I nest other items inside of that when I am traveling so it does not take up much extra room. When I am boondocking, that "basin" goes in the tent to catch water from my shower -- and my feet get a good soaking.

I use a hula hoop for a shower curtain rod, with normal shower curtain hooks and shower curtains. If you want a larger surround, you can use 1.5 or 2 hula hoops. In the van it hangs from a rope going to a luggage bar.

Outside, that same luggage bar can be positioned between either my side or rear doors, next to the van, or hung from a tree. It is both my toilet surround and my shower.

There is a huge variety of storage totes and under bed boxes available for shower bases. Another option which I have seen used is to suspend a second hula hoop from the top one, only down and closer to the ground, then simply create your own water containment system with a sheet of plastic or a tarp.

I also use mine as a circular clothes line inside my van for drying my towel & wash cloth etc.

We were at a teardrop gathering, and another couple had onna these set up next to their trailer.

They had a porta-potty, and a hot shower wherever they went.

Very cool set-up!

I made one out of pvc and tarps. the only pic I have of it is to large of a file to posts. highdesertranger

Highdesert there are free tools to reduce the bit size of the picture file.

Thanks Johnny B!! That dog pool is expensive. But if I want to catch the gray water it's what I would use. Instead I might just get a roll of ground cover plastic that will allow gray water to go through to the ground. And take a shower in there knowing it will leak out. Four foot square is nice size for that privy.

Looking at this article, it seems that people do set up gray water showers. A sun shower is a grey water shower (notice I spell gray-grey two ways). So you may need to collect your gray water regardless of if you want to or not.

That $70 dog bath (the large size version) may be just what is needed. Plus you will need a submergible pump, to push the gray water back into a storage tank.

I don't know, washing with dirty water doesn't really appeal to me. highdesertranger

Last comment -- looked at the browning shower shelter also. Via Cabela web site. That was good for a single person.

But think the one at Walmart was better with a couple or with lots of other people.

Here is the bookmark for the Cabelas shower tent. Its more expensive than the small tent in previous postings, but much larger. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Brow...der%3BSearch-All+Products&Ntt=browning+shower

Also need to recommend a drying rack to place in the shower. You might have a lot more clothing to get dried after a rainstorm, and a collapsible clothing drying rack is a good place to put those things, instead of out where everyone can see your unmentionables.

there is just so much use you can get out of this. yes some will just use tarps strategically placed.
