The recent post about clearance and boondocking in a minivan reminded me of something I would very much like to learn more about, and RTR might be a place to explore that.

That would be self rescue. Getting unstuck. Getting out of soft sand. Getting out of a rut once high centered. Getting off of a rock. I have read posts but I am a learn by seeing and doing kind of person. I would love a hands on workshop with actually getting a vehicle out of sand, or out of a rut. I'd like to see and work with the straps, winches, attachment points, jacks, blocks etc. What to do, and what not to do. What's the most out vulnerable part of the undercarriage.

Any other interest?

Anybody interested in demonstrating what they carry?

I can demo my come along, but that's a SLOOOOOW, albeit cheap, method of getting unstuck lol

Art,
Slow is fine as long as it gets the job done.

Will you be at ehrenberg or RTR?

Hi Nancy, how're ya doing? I would be interested in attending this seminar if it comes together. I bought a nice strap/come-along and luckily, it's still in the box. I want to get a couple of those flat doo-dads Bob has for getting out of sand or mud and I discovered my jack is too weak.

When I was Jeep Head one thing was valued above all others..............
High Lift Jack after that was a come-along a shovel and a spare tire.

(I'm gonna leave a winch out of this)

So would this require getting some vehicles actually stuck in order to demonstrate how to get them unstuck? :)

If so, I volunteer yours.  :)

I would definitely be interested in sharing what knowledge I have. I do "recoveries" pretty often (w/o a winch) and sometimes self-recoveries. ;-)

There's probably not going to be anything in camp that we can't recover, either w/ my equipment or what I can scrounge from people like HDR, Wagoneer, etc., so no problem doing real demos. :-D

Perhaps some old carpet scrap , Forest was a handy fellow. We can be hampered by our weight remember lean'n'mean .Yo sup wolf

I now travel with a full size shovel and 6,000lb comealong on my van. Between the 20' spooled cable and a 20' recovery strap (not tow strap) I have decent recovery options. If in the desert that might mean burying the spare or sand bags as a hitch point.
