Winter driving is where front wheel drive is best . . .

I disagree.

I learned to drive in Duluth, Minnesota in the winter.  I've driven both front and rear wheel drive cars in all conditions, including racing.  The only time FWD vehicles have an advantage is going in a straight line when most of the weight is on the front wheels.  Any other conditions RWD vehicles have the advantage (unless you don't care about what the rear of the vehicle does as in ice racing).  Any time you have equal or more weight on the rear FWD vehicles are at a severe disadvantage.

This thread has nothing to do with fact anyway.
The Promaster Fiat 2500 is rated 18th out of 21 vans.
(Of course the poster did not include that in his post.)
Why not? It was right there at the very top of the page.
If one wants people "to be educated" about the "truth" wouldn't they want to include the rating showing it is 3rd from the worst? Hmmm.

Then again, if someone was more into pushing their opinion than the truth, they might behave in this manner.
(Not saying the OP is a troll or doing this of course...but it surely seems like stinky logic to me.)

Also, that site has pure hocus pocus "science" in its computations. Looking at its Ford costs/ratings, I can safely tell you it is largely fluff BS. Look at their data description. Lets see raw comparisons over all. Lets see if they even include warranty work.
Not sure? Check their explanation of how they come to those figures...

About as reliable as a Forbes Magazine "top ten cars" list.

JD, thank you for the other post about promasters reliability. I found it helpful. I'd given up on the promaster when I found they were front wheel drive which is a personal bias of mine. It's always good to know more, especially when it's proprietary data analysis. You were a gift horse and unfortunately your smile is apparently mesmerizing.

Please don't refrain from sharing in the future. Handing out hundred dollar bills will still get you complaints about how they're creased.

I have posted 10 various links, not all biased or positive, on the Promaster for all to reference.
Only Cortt has also posted a link.

There were 4 specific questions asked when the thread was started, that have been assessed and answered.

Fleet purchase is no guarantee or even related to reliability of purchased vehicle.

No info to date has been posted for WHY purchased by UPS and USPS.

Unknown as to how much of a factor reliability can play in the decision purchase. Probably varies.

No information on whether fuel economy can compensate for repair costs with fleet purchase decisions. Probably varies.

There is NO personal agenda by myself beyond those facts. Anything more " read" into intent and motivation is fabrication. As stated previously, seeking info regarding those specific points.

Thread purpose was to explore reliability of the Promaster and if fleet purchase relates to this.

Any info regarding the topic will help all who read the thread and considering the Promaster in the future.

I do not own one nor am I seeking to purchase one and have no gain or personal benefit to promoting them. Which I am not, initiated the discussion for the benefit of all.

So you just thought the first line with the "18 out of 21" rating...right at the top of that page...was nothing important?
You surely included a bunch of info from it, neatly cut and pasted.

Would you care to do a character count for a true percentage of what you included and "with no agenda" chose not to include? We could look at each item, line by line.
Is this nothing but JD being a big grouchy Blue Meanie with a chip on his shoulder?
The "18 out of 21" omission was just coincidence then?
I get it, you have no agenda here.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

To continue with the spirit of the thread, was curious as to the benefit of the improved fuel economy for the Promaster over an older style van like the Express. And if this could be a factor in fleet purchase decisions.

From fuelly.com reported gas mileage,
Promaster at about 18 and Express at 13, a difference of 4.
With the average yearly miles driven around 15000, that translates to a fuel savings of 321 gallons a year. At $2.68/ gallon that translates to a savings of
$860/ year.
Travel less, less impact. Travel more, more of a benefit.

Of course, calculate based upon your own selection of numbers to determine more suitable for your situation or preference.

And if a fleet were to travel 30000 miles per year, the benefit would double to $1720 fuel savings per year. Significant enough to offset maintenance and repair costs one world think.

However, fleets often get fuel discounts, impacting that number and reducing the benefit.
Anyone have any experience as to how much of a discount USPS and or UPS would be getting?

ROFL...
As I wait for a report to run, I sit in my chair of pain, surfing...and had time to click your MPG post a couple up from this one.
"Thats funny" I thought. "Our V8 GM's van or pickup numbers are a lot better than 13," I thought.
"Where did he get these numbers from?" I thought.

So I clicked on "your references."
Just how you got the figures you reported out of those charts is..."very creative."
I do not want to keep engaging you...Truly...but the real numbers are nearly EXACTLY what I would have expected to find there...NOT what you reported in your post. Why would you feel the need to misrepresent them?
What good will that do anyone reading this thread?
(Wait, I knew the answer to this a few posts back. Nevermind.)

I encourage anyone scratching their head right now to click on the links and see what the chart says to you about the MPG number reported two posts back.
