When Subaru first hit American shores, they were very poor cars, but, they were the only car with 4wd. When the first Subaru dealer opened in Alaska (in the 80s?), they were worshiped like gods!! My mom and my sister both bought one. They were under-powered, got poor MPG and were not reliable. But during a snowstorm they were the only car that could get around town, so the worship continued.

My understanding is that today they have drastically improved and have become reliable and dependable with decent MPG.

In your situation it's perfect!! I'm sure you are very grateful for it until you can get something better!

The Subaru brand I would stay away from on the grounds of big bucks to repair not so much the lemon Subaru I owned. For example I owned a Ford at the same time and had to have the exhaust system up to but not including the converter. I was able to do it myself for just under $200. The Subaru was totally different and I had to have it done by a shop......$700!!!! The system on the Subaru had 6 different parts and they really porked me good and hard for every one of them. Just the parts were much much more than the entire cost of the ford systrm

Unfortunately all true about the Subaru on parts costing a lot. Keep looking for another four wheel drive vehicle for good MPG. Like maybe a TOYOTA. RAV4 or older Landcruiser or highlander
