Prairie dog treasure...

I'm at a WM in Bozeman and on my way to toss away a bag of trash, I spotted this $20 bill laying on the ground. It was right next to a prairie dog hole in a grassy area next to the parking lot.

At first I thought it was some kind of a setup. Grab the bill and get bitten. Or a rattler would strike. Silly, right?

But I did think it was a little odd that it was laying there right at the entrance.


Do prairie dogs act like pack rats sometimes?

Anyways, I'm $20 richer this morning.

Yes and to keep on the good side of that I decided to share the wealth a litttle. On the way out of the lot I gave a panhandler $3.

Still plenty left for a pizza and a couple beers,HDR. Sorry Mr. Prairie Dog.

Prairie Dogs are on my list of critters I'd like to see, so I welcome info about reliable places to see them.

Now if you would have stepped back into the shadows for a few minutes he would have come out and led you to the stacks of bills he and his crew lifted from the Brinks truck.

Yes, there are prairie dogs here. Kinda fun watching them run around.  The grassy area is used a lot by people from the RVs walking their dogs, so you often see the little guys standing upright and looking around then diving for cover.

If you want to see prairie dogs, go to the NP campgrounds on the Gunnison river in Colorado. I remember camping there years ago and there were so many that instead of pitching my tent, I slept in the back of my station wagon.

Sorry, no pic of the pizza. I bought lottery tickets instead. The beers have been 'processed'.

Yes!
Though the FWS ("Fish and Wildlife Service") has/had plans to distribute vaccine via drones, which is awesomely kewl.

in this report the vaccines delivery systems are only proposals. the PFD also states that Bubonic Plague is a problem with Prairie Dogs and Ground Squirrels. in some areas it's a big problem. it must be noted that they are not trying to save the Prairie Dogs but the Black Footed Ferrets who interact with the Prairie Dogs.

Yeah, burrowing owls and many other critters use their holes.
They're kind of the unsung, unappreciated Corps of Engineers of the wildlife kingdom... as well as providing a morale treat to a dweller.
