I'm at a WM in Bozeman and on my way to toss away a bag of trash, I spotted this $20 bill laying on the ground. It was right next to a prairie dog hole in a grassy area next to the parking lot.

At first I thought it was some kind of a setup. Grab the bill and get bitten. Or a rattler would strike. Silly, right?

But I did think it was a little odd that it was laying there right at the entrance.

Do prairie dogs act like pack rats sometimes?

Anyways, I'm $20 richer this morning.

Good Karma.

Yes and to keep on the good side of that I decided to share the wealth a litttle. On the way out of the lot I gave a panhandler $3.

Still plenty left for a pizza and a couple beers,HDR. Sorry Mr. Prairie Dog.

Ohhhh, that poor prairie dog was saving up for MONTHS. Tee hee hee.

very cool, I love love love finding money on the ground :)

Mr Prarie Dog is tiffed tho, that was his rum money for the week!

Did ya leave him something as a token of gratitude?....lol

Did you actually see a prairie dog, or did you guess that was who lived in that hole?

Prairie Dogs are on my list of critters I'd like to see, so I welcome info about reliable places to see them. :)

P.S. GeekPoint if you post a picture of the pizza. :D

Them dogs don't stuff their mattress with $20 bills, that is their mattress.

Now if you would have stepped back into the shadows for a few minutes he would have come out and led you to the stacks of bills he and his crew lifted from the Brinks truck. :)

I often eat peanuts and had a bag in my van and thought about leaving a few for him.

He would probably take that as an insult.

Yes, there are prairie dogs here. Kinda fun watching them run around.  The grassy area is used a lot by people from the RVs walking their dogs, so you often see the little guys standing upright and looking around then diving for cover.

If you want to see prairie dogs, go to the NP campgrounds on the Gunnison river in Colorado. I remember camping there years ago and there were so many that instead of pitching my tent, I slept in the back of my station wagon.

Sorry, no pic of the pizza. I bought lottery tickets instead. The beers have been 'processed'.

do Prairie Dogs have the Plague problem that ground squirrels have? highdesertranger

slow2day: Thanks for the tips! :) :) :)
It mostly makes up for my disappointment at your lack of prairie dog funded pizza provisioning. :)

HDR:
Yes!
Though the FWS ("Fish and Wildlife Service") has/had plans to distribute vaccine via drones, which is awesomely kewl. :)
There's a link to a PDF about it in the Wikipedia article, if any of you average-cybersafety folks would care to read & summarize for the rest of us:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prairie_dogs#cite_note-27

here's a link to the PFD if anybody is interested,

https://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/UAS_2016_EA_final.pdf

in this report the vaccines delivery systems are only proposals. the PFD also states that Bubonic Plague is a problem with Prairie Dogs and Ground Squirrels. in some areas it's a big problem. it must be noted that they are not trying to save the Prairie Dogs but the Black Footed Ferrets who interact with the Prairie Dogs.

Thanks HDR!
If somebody felt like extracting the text of the entire PDF, and posting it somewhere safe & sharing a link, that would be shiny. :)
I vividly remember one of the first times somebody tried wildlife vaccination via aerial bait dropping:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3206077
It's now in widespread use against rabies.

By "interact", I'm pretty sure that means... they eat 'em. :(
But thank you for being sensitive to those of us who are critter huggers.

yes I was trying to be diplomatic about it. LOL they also use their holes for homes but that is after dinner. highdesertranger

Yeah, burrowing owls and many other critters use their holes.
They're kind of the unsung, unappreciated Corps of Engineers of the wildlife kingdom... as well as providing a morale treat to a dweller. :)

I say "Make It So" for Drone Vaccinations! :)

P.S. A big thanks & bucket of Geek Points to the forum Geek who converted the PDF to text and sent it to me. You're Awesome.. and fast!. :D
