I have owned a Polaris Ace 570 for a bit over a year, I still owe about 3 grand on it and the thing is a POS. Aside from bad service from the dealer,Grapevine Power Sports In Grapevine Tx., the build quality on this 8 thousand dollar albatross is worse than if it was built in China on a bad day.

I'm on my second battery and as I mentioned in another thread I tried to jump start it with a small power pack and ;;;;nothing, not even dash lights. I won't go into the litany of things that have gone wrong with it, it would take too long but I am at the end. I canceled the extended warranty yesterday, got the form via email, scanned it, signed it and am getting 750 back.

The Dealer wanted to come pick it up and diagnose it, but there is a flat fee of 180 dollars to do it. Nope. I went and bought the outsize torque screw bit yesterday and a small charger. The 20 amp fuse is good so that leaves either a shorted battery or a failed ecm which is about 300 installed. Rob's done.

Battery is going to be tested and if it's shorted I will give this ATV one last chance. If not then I have already talked to my bank and will stop the automatic deductions for it and the insurance for it.

I mentioned to the finance guy for the owner to check his yelp rating and the comments on other Military type forums I belong to. That got a sort of threatening call from the owner. I love threats of any kind. I almost get an erection when someone threatens me.

So I will take this battery and have it checked and go from there. Look for the bonfire in the parking lot.

Sorry to hear that, had we been on this forum when you bought it I'd have steered you away from that thing, Polaris 4 wheelers are , shal we say, unrecommended among those in the community

Well, I would likely think along similar lines, but there is a downside to simply stopping payment and dumping it off in the dealer's lot. It could adversely affect your credit rating. But, does your state have a "lemon law"? Maybe there is a legal recourse?

While I was in Quartzsite I mentioned to someone that it seemed everyone had some type of ATV. They said yeah, they cost so much and even more to keep them running.

Yes, they have a lemon law, but doesn't apply to ATV's. I'll try to sell it to the dealer before I just call the finance company. I guess what makes me the most upset is the " Oh Well" attitude of the dealer.

I managed to get the cover off of the battery and remove the battery cables, hooked up my battery pack and got lights on but no starting action because the seat was disconnected (failsafe). The strap covering the battery is buried deeper than any of my tools can reach so as a last resort I called one of the mechanics at the dealer and he has the correct tool to remove the battery. He said he would put a battery in for 20 dollars and I said hell no, 50. Surprised him I did but I meant it.

The last shot with this thing is a new battery, agm if I can find one, and if that works, keep the thing.

ATV's don't need to be expensive, you are buying the wrong one's if they are. I have 2 1998 Suzuki King Quads(4 wheelers)4x4's, that were bought brand new. they have been very reliable work horses for 19 years. other than routine maintenance they have been trouble free, they get between 45-55 mpg, they will pull my truck. so when I get to camp the truck gets parked and the 4 wheels get driven. they do not have a bunch of fancy doo dads that will break. one needs a engine rebuild at the moment($500) but it still runs. it is also approaching 10k miles. that is a lot for a 4 wheeler, like 3 cross country trips. so I have been very happy with my simple economical 4 wheelers. highdesertranger

HDR It's good to read yours are reliable. My Polaris isn't. I suppose I picked wrong. Not my first nor my last error in judgement.

Rob

sorry Rob that post wasn't aimed at you it was for Jim who said they were expensive. I wanted to point out I have had a totally different experience. highdesertranger

Hey Rob, sorry to hear about your Polaris Lemon. I can tell you my Honda TRX 300 was dead reliable, even after sitting a while. Ended up selling it to a neighbor. He's had really good luck with it too. I'm sure you can get a lemon in any make, but I think your odds are better with Honda, Suzuki, or Kawasaki. Your Polaris dealer definitely deserves some bad reviews.

A lot is my fault, I don't ride it often. It just atrophies sitting out there. Maybe things will change soon. Thanks for the kind words.

I hope things work out for you with the Polaris and you can take it with you to use at your new place & it will be handy to have.

Now I know this is off topic, however it's about your new signature line.  The previous one really struck a chord in me as that seems to be a reoccurring theme in my life right now.  Something about this new one has been nagging at me and now I know why.

There is hope......You may find your mind..... YAY!  I know this because around 14 or 15 years ago my oldest grandson Mason opened his Great Granma's mailbox, reached inside & with a big happy grin turned to me holding out his hand and said "Look Granma I Found Your Marbles".  When I look at all 6+ft and 300lbs of him I still see that little happy face that found my marbles for me. :D

My old signature line came to the attention of a snooping Granddaughter who properly chastised me about the eff word. Plus I got to thinking maybe it offended some.. It was meant as humor, but I changed it.

Gunny, if you really want to burn it, try to get some mileage out of it:

* Ask the fire department if there is a special place where you could do it (or ask someone else to ask that doesn't have anything to burn).  If you could do it at the fire station, you could even let them put out the fire (practice, you know)
* Put an ad on Craigslist selling raffle tickets for $1 to do the deed, 100% of the donations go to a local non-profit.
* See if the local newspaper has any interest (who knows - might be a slow news day, good for laughs)
* Send an invitation to the dealer, explaining the whole thing, and ask how many raffle tickets they would like.  Tell them you've invited the press.

You might as well get SOME 'mileage' out of it.  *evil grin*
And I am noticing that this site STILL does not have a little red devil smilie with horns -- what's with that?

That is a GREAT idea, provided the dumb thing doesn't redeem itself

BTW ,mind if I steal that sig line, since you aren't using it anymore? :D

Oh, and +1000 to 'where's our devil / evil smiley?'

The Polaris lives again. A $115.00 AGM battery from Interstate and it fired up. Now to find a small solar battery tender that won't fry the battery. Probably get stolen but what the hell.

Good deal, Rob! Better than an expensive bonfire.
