Today I discovered that Ajo, AZ has a real live Radio Shack store. Limited supply of electronics component stuff of course but will order in from Radio Shack if they do not stock it. They also accept packages from any source, for $5.00. They are a UPS shipping center but accept Amazon, Fed Ex, USPS, etc. Just use your name and their street addres. Do not put the business name or C/O etc on the shipping address.

This is why in Japan obtaining a propane tank and getting it refilled is a very difficult process. And EXPENSIVE. You have to buy your tank. And getting it refilled at any place other than where you bought it isn’t easy. They’re considered extremely dangerous, which they can be. Overreaction, but that sort of thing happens. They close the barn door after the cow gets out, but then they redesign the freakin’ door, update the locks, and put a guard inside and out.

The man who was driving it seemed dazed and it looked like he had a problem with his arms but was walking. Ambulance took him away. Sure he needs everyone’s prayers. Probably lost everything he owned.

Egad. I was there around 1 pm to get water, and there was no sign of any excitement at all, I was completely oblivious.

We hear of these incidents, and I do whatever I know how to do to keep from exploding, but - these stories often leave me clueless. I mean, exactly how did this explosion happen???

OK, so it could have been that he wasn't sufficiently careful about doing the refilling?

I'm not usually much of a worrywart, but the idea that my cozy little van could maim or even kill me makes me a bit unsettled....

How many reasons do people need not to smoke or to be careful around propane. Feel bad for the person this happened to but how many times does this have to happen.

Did he refill the tanks himself? Or were they refilled by an attendant? What kind of tanks? Were they normal tanks or the small Coleman tanks that aren't supposed to be refilled but that there are so many "hacks" on how to re-use them? So many questions... It's horrible but also a warning to be careful and think more about safety.

Could have. The pics of the burned out vehicle looked like a mini-van though...
Seems like the smell should have been really potent though too.

I've never seen a place that does, but then again I've only ever filled propane tanks in Calif... Heck, in FL I've seen multiple people fill up their cars at the gas station with the engine running while smoking a cigarette... so anyone who knows whether or not filling propane tanks is self-serve in AZ feedback would be useful...
