Isn't the rain beautiful and we need it here in the area. I was tempted to drive seven hours today to check out a van in So Cal, but with the snow I decided not to go. Glad you are adapting well with your first week in the books. I wish you the very best in the future.

While I am happy your are enjoying the rain, I am sick of it! I want sun!

I had forgotten how it could rain here, when it sets its mind to it! That was quite a quantity of water to dump all in one night. I loved it!

I agree you've had more than your fair share of rain the past two weeks. I'll send you our sunshine, if you send us your rain. Poor, brown, California needs all it can get!

I used to live in up above Cool back in the 90s. Beautiful area. I commuted to Folsom each day from there. It does rain pretty good once you get up in those trees of the Sierras (when it does do it).

I've discovered first hand, how beneficial it could be to have a roof-mounted panel in addition to my suitcase solar.  While parked in my friend's driveway, and desperately in need of solar charging, it has taken me 3 hours of constantly moving my panel to finally achieve enough sunlight to get 13.1v, 5.5 amps from the panel.  And, as the sun keeps moving, I will have to, as well.  The roof of my rv is always in the sun the way the trees and shrubs are located, where the ground is not.  Sure, I could find a way to get this one up there, and get it back down before I leave, but ... kind of a pain on a 12' high rig.

Anyway, shopping online for new house batteries, and generally just relaxing today.  Below are some pictures of the walk I took with Bella yesterday.  Finding beauty wherever I am, has become my favorite hobby.

I was thinking the same thing! She sure has brought beauty into otherwise dreary places. Love my girl!!

N4T,
Regarding your generator I did some searching and found this comment.

"The symptoms you describe (runs until you take your finger off the start button) are generally indicative of one (or more) of four things. They are, dirty or oxidized slip rings from non use, a bad voltage regulator, a bad circuit board, or a defective oil pressure switch. I would start by cleaning the slip rings."

You didn't get into much detail but if the generator runs until you let off the starter it could be one off these. Depending on the location it could be fairly easy to bypass the oil switch for a test. Just disconnect the two wires and find some way to tie them together electrically. If the motor hasn't been run in awhile it could take a few moments for it to get pressure up. Don't run beyond a test with the switch disconnected.

It doesn't seem to be a cause in this case but for future reference many (most?) RVs shut off fuel to the generator if the tank gets below 1/4 or so. This is to keep the generator from using all the fuel and stranding you.

What Make and Model is the Generator? There should be an 800# that you can call for help.

Guy

Thanks, Guy! It doesn't even run that long. It will still shut off with your finger on the switch, then the starter (?) starts making a horrible racket (like when you try to start your car when it's already running). It's an Onan 4000w generator, I don't recall the rest of it, and it's dark outside, but there is a Cummins West shop in West Sacramento that I might take it to so that I don't risk making the problem worse. I was hoping when I first tried to figure it out that the low fuel level was the problem, but I've tried with completely full tanks since then, and not had any luck.

Hello, everyone! Sorry I've been out of touch for so long, but Verizon is not the dream carrier for up at my campground. I have to drive an hour into Porterville for data service, so I've recently uploaded a bunch of blog posts to catch everyone up on my "adventure". I hope everyone is well. I'll try to catch up next week.

Just read your blog posts - you're doing great!!

Not the transmission fluid leak, the idiotic predator, the surrounding wildlife nor the workload has made you turn tail and run!!

Congratulations on your first week there!

Every day should be an adventure but maybe not such a big adventure.... :D :D

Thanks for the update! I've been wondering how you were doing. It good to hear that you've been able to work around all of the not very much fun parts of your new adventure. Hope you have a great summer at the park and are able to get your transmission fixed reasonably.

Great posts Nana. I enjoy the stories of your work. I hope to be workcamping next year and your experience you convey here is great. Take care and stay safe!

I also have been wondering how you were doing.  It's good to hear from you and I enjoyed reading your blog.  You certainly have dealt with some problems well.  Including "predator".  LOL.

Stay safe!

glad you're doing ok. boy that guy was a creep, and the shooting what a bunch of a-holes. well take care everything will get easier. highdesertranger
