Ford just released a few more details about the new full size van that will eventually be replacing the E-Series. While I love my E-350 I think I would gladly trade it for a new model with a high roof and 25% better fuel economy! I'll try to link some more pictures, but I really like the optional raised roof, the plastic trim around the wheel wells and rockers and the wide rear bumper.

http://www.fordinsidenews.com/forum...Moves-Full-Size-Utility-Van-into-21st-Century

http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/transit/2014/gallery/photos/transit/

I like it. Because of the pervasive presence of Ford, it certainly seems to have the potential to be disruptive of what is sort of the status quo in the Class C and Class B RV world.

No V8 option
I finally got to see a couple of these on the road today (I live in SouthEast Michigan, so I often see vehicles from the Big 3 before they are released). They look even better in person and are absolutely massive! The 3 I saw were all identical and appeared to be extended high tops. Did I mention that they are huge? I'm already day dreaming about some crazy build outs that could be done with all that square footage.

Perhaps I should drive it before I judge, but I agree with Rollin, Somehow a 3.7 V6 just doesn't seem to get me going. (figuratively or literally)

I had an E-350 from the early 90's with a 5.7 V8. My first V8.... I was never disappointed and may never go back. I do get a little nauseous at the gas pump though.

-Noah
If you were happy with the performance of your early 90's 351 then you will probably be very happy with the new V6's.

An early 90's 351 V8 put out about 200 horses and 300lbs of torque. Assuming the V6's in the Transit are similar to the F150's then the stock 3.7 V6 will be pumping out 305 horsepower and around 280ftlbs of torque and the EcoTech V6 option will be around 365 horsepower and 420ftlbs of torque! There will also be a diesel option and I assume the torque specs on that will be even better than the v6's. Combined with the the additional efficiency of a the 6 speed automatic transmissions these Transits should easily be outperforming the older E-Series.

The 7.3 Power Stroke was an awesome motor, but it's not Ford's fault that it's no longer an option (The loss of engines like that is squarely on the Fed's and their emissions regulations )

ditto that... the cleaner formulated diesel fuel has been a smooth transition for me, less smoke less smell.

I wish the Transit would be out this year, but it is pushed back until summer of 2014. So far, from what I've seen, it is definitely a winner. I would say the Sprinter still has an edge, but for the cost difference, and the fact that Sprinter service depots are not easy to find compared to a Ford shop, the Transit is definitely a nice offering.

Lots of headroom, great MPG, three decent engine choices, two of which lose very little horsepower when going into higher altitudes, and supposedly upfitter friendly. It will be interesting how that will compete with the Dodge ProMaster vans coming to dealers in a month or two.

I know mlts22 - ME TOO!!!! This is the ultimate dream, the ultimate foundation of our final campervan build, but in the mean time it simply won't fit in our garage and we aren't ready to hit the road full time so we gotta wait. bummer

The Dodge looks pretty good, but I will wait till the Ford comes out. Then I will trade my 2013 Silverado on one of them.
