I did a similar conversion. I bought a STOCK 2000 Astro AWD with 100,000 miles on it (4.3L V-6), and slowly started to convert.

I lifted it 2" with Overland Vans products.
Put some slightly larger tires on it.
Painted the lower "kick boards" and wheels with black bed liner.
Laid down some thin OSB over the carpet.
Made a bed that had storage underneath, and "telescoped out" towards the sliding door so two could sleep on it.
Made a cabinet for the back that held: Water (plumbed over to a pump faucet); stove, propane tanks, and cooler.
2" receiver.

Took a couple of trips to Maob in it (moto on a carrier in the hitch, MTB in the van) and enjoyed the tar out of that rig! Ended up selling to a co-worker, and going the "high top" camper van route with all of the amenities.

HI ALL YOU VAN LOVING GUY'S AND GAL'S, THANKS FOR CHECKING THREAD

MONTANA WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE, VERY BEAUTIFUL WITH TONS OF GREAT CAMPING
SPOTS.  WAS AMAZING TO SEE SNOW CAPPED MOUNTAINS IN JULY.
THE WATERFALL WAS ON ROAD  #38  EAST OF HAMILTON MT.  IN THE SAPPHIRE MOUNTAIN RANGE.
CALLED SKALKAHO NOT FAR FROM PASS LEADING EAST TO ANACONDA. GRAVEL ROAD IN
DECENT CONDITION.  USFS  CAMPGROUNDS WERE PRICED FAIR,  STATE AND NATIONAL PARKS
PRICEY.  IF YOU QUALIFY, A GOLDEN AGE PASS IS A GREAT WAY TO SAVE MONIES. STATE ANNUAL
PASSES HELP THE BUDGET ALSO.

BE SAFE AND ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.

HI ALL YOU VAN LOVING GUY' AND GAL'S, THANKS FOR CHECKING THREAD!

MONTANA'S CATTLE COUNTRY.  PIX OF "THE CASTLE" IN WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WAS A 1880'S
RANCHERS HOUSE BUILD FOR HIS EASTERN US WIFE.  NOT TO FAR TO SOUTH IS RINGLING WY AND
HOME OF RINGLING.  MET A YOUNG COWBOY AT A RANCH ACCESS POINT WHO TOLD ME THE RANCH
HAD 125000 ACRES AND 18 COWBOYS TO WORK CATTLE.  MOST RANCHES HAVE USFS GRAZING LEASES
FOR SUMMER PASTURE.

BE SAFE AND ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.  NEXT WEEK MORE MT. AND WY.

HELLO ALL YOU VAN LOVING GUY'S AND GAL'S, THANKS FOR CHECKING THREAD!

WELL,  MONTANA AND WYOMING JUST KEEPS ON GIVING GREAT VISTA'S.  THIS HAS BEEN
ONE SUPER TRIP.  THE ATTCHED PHOTOS WERE TAKEN GOING FROM RED LODGE MT. TO
CODY WY.  IN MY OPINION WAS BEST STRETCH OF TRIP FOR VISTAS.  WAS BETTER THAN
ROCKY MT. NP IN CO.  I PLAN ON GOING BACK NEXT YEAR AND WILL DO THIS SECTION IN
REVERSE AS IT WOULD ALSO ALLOW A TRIP TO YELLOWSTONE IF DESIRED.

BE SAFE AND ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY,  NEXT WEEK MORE OF WY.

HI ALL YOU VAN LOVING BUCK A ROO'S!  THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THREAD.

WYOMING ON ROAD TO CODY WY, HEADING EAST.  THE MOUNTAINS ARE THE BEARTOOTH.
CODY WAS SUPER BUSY WITH TOURIST.  THIS AREA AND NORTH IN TO MONTANA WAS WHERE
LARGE NUMBERS OF NATIVE AMERICANS CALLED HOME AND THE HUGE NORTHERN BISON HERDS
ROAMED THE PLAINS OF EASTERN WY AND MT.  THIS IS AREA OF THE HOLE IN WALL AND FAMOUS
POWER RIVER FLOWS.  MY SECOND TIME TO DEVILS  TOWER, STILL IMPRESSIVE.
tRIP16.jpgENJOY PIXS  SHOWDOWN WAS SO SMALL IT DID EVEN LIST POPULATION.
