But the US is close to Full Employment levels, economy is doing great

but for whom?
BUT....the employment figures only reflect those who applied for unemployment that week. They completely ignore those who have finished their unemployment benefits, and those who are not eligible such as the self employed. It's an unreliable metric.

The Dire Wolfess

Yes when huge chunks of your population are just no longer needed, give up participating, they're not unemployed.

The day is coming that something like Universal Basic Income makes sense, as AI continues to cut into white collar work.

Day will come a perfectly healthy economy only needs 10-15% of the population to be employed.

Need a whole new economic model.

So where is the daughter?

Hey, Texas ...
She has chosen, wisely in my humble opinion, to go back to school and get a teaching credential.  I dropped her off in Greeley [at her mom's] a little over two weeks ago.  The dogs went "home" too.  So, I am, except for those I have been meeting along the way, alone.  :D

Ah ok....hmmm....well it worked out it seems...

How is the tow vehicle doing? I cant remember what model it is, but some kind of a V6 SUV I think.

I recently added electric brakes to my 6x12 trailer....seems to have been well worth the trouble and expense.

Hey, Texas ...
It's doing good so far.  It had a lot of miles on it when I bought it [145K], but it's performed better than I and some others expected.  I get between 7 and 12 miles a gallon while towing.  As high as 27 MPG when not.  I've logged about 6000 miles on the trailer and TV since departing in February of last year ... so far ... so good.

I am looking to replace it, however.  It's done really well, but I think something with a bit more gumption would be a better choice.  I'm pretty set on a 4X4 pickup truck ... might build a camper on the back some day .... dunno ...

Anyway, long answer to a short question ... LOL!

I was quoted $750 a wheel when I got the trailer.  eBrakes are on the list, but pretty low at that price tag.

So, $1500 for brakes? That's crazy talk.

The total cost for brakes on mine came to about $400, that's including brake controller, new harness, and a new Dexter ez-lube axle with electric nevr-adjust brakes. I supplied the labor of course. When I sell the old idler axle on craigslist I expect to get around $50-$75 back.

If your axle already has the brake flanges (mine did not) you can add just the brakes for much less.

I do like the way the rig stops much quicker with brakes on all the wheels.

So you bought a complete axle with brakes already on it?  How much for that, and where did you buy it?

Yep. $200 for the 3500# Dexter ez-lube axle with nevr adjust brakes and 10" brake drums.

Here it is on the right, next to my old idler axle after removal from the trailer:

WOW!  That's a awful lot cheaper than the quote I got ... it pays to shop!
Thanks! :)

Yep, I had seen lots of higher prices quoted online. After a bit of trouble finding the exact axle I needed, I had emailed the company that made my trailer (Carry-On) and requested prices. They replied and advised me to contact my dealer who could order whatever I needed.

So I did, and they quoted $200 plus tax, and no shipping. (the shipping for an axle with brake drums is very expensive if shipped individually to your door)

The reason for no shipping charge? They would call the trailer factory and have one shipped on the next flatbed truck that was making a delivery of trailers to this dealer. So it was essentially free to ship. And my guess is that Carry-On buys in bulk from Dexter, so they still made a profit, I'm sure. It took 2 weeks, but I was in no hurry, especially when shipping was actually 'Free'. Of course, I had to drive to the dealership to pick up the axle.

I dont know if other dealers would arrange a similar deal. But mine did.

My current campsite at the base of Blanca Peak in southern Colorado.
This was taken on the evening of Sept 13th looking southwest towards Alamosa.  ISO 6400, 10mm, 20 seconds, f3.5.
The bright object to the right is the Moon.  Mars is along the left edge.  That cloud in the middle [just above my converted cargo trailer] is the Milky Way ... our galaxy.  :)

Other sizes are here.

I will be here for a few more days before heading south to Quartzsite and the La Posa South LTVA.  I'm planning to be at Jamie's van build during November, and then the RTR in January ... assuming there will be one?

Don't believe it folks....he's in Colorado...we KNOW what that rising plume of smoke is....
:D

That is a beautiful area...I've been thru that valley many times....in the truck.

But, I never got to stay and enjoy it from a campchair. That really is a nice picture you took.

Wish I was there to enjoy it. That little 'hump' in the lower left, just above ground level from your vantage point, is San Antonio Mountain in Northern NM.

Here is what it looks in like in early December, approaching from the south, and from the rest area adjacent to it on HWY 285:

And here is the mountain behind you as you snapped that picture, Blanca Peak, as seen from Alamosa on the west side:
