Glad to hear you're still plugging away. Did you get a Jeep? I recently traded $500 in labor on a job for a '79 CJ7. It runs and I drove it home, but it needs some tlc. Still trying to decide if I'm going to keep it once I do the minimum fixing it up, or sell it for a profit to fund getting out of debt so I can hit the road more. Stay warm and the nice weather will return before we know it.

Hey all, just a quick update. The Ambo is doing fine, lots of little things getting done. Spent some time in it the past few weeks and now I am working in a list of "must change" things that need to get done before my next trip.
Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, insulation is a very good thing. Keep us posted, as there are still a few of us following this thread.   ;-)

yep I am still following. hope you can make RTR next year I am dying to see your rig. highdesertranger

Hey Baloo
that rig looks much smaller in the snow................

Thanks guys, glad to know I am not alone in the project. Yes, my little bronco needed more work than I have time, so I bought a wrangler. The ambo tows it with ease and they will never stop making parts for a Jeep...

I may have to change my mind about ambulances. Would love to see more pics. Looks great so far!

Thanks, there are 24 pages of em here...

Do you find you need to move the 'yak before being able to use your kitchen area?  Looks pretty tight in there (says the Big Guy...)  ;)

Been watching your build with great interest.  I envy your fabbing skills!

Surprisingly no, the yak acts like a bench seat when I have company. Pictures make it look much smaller than it is. Thanks for following! I like the attention...

Also there is plenty of room for a "big guy" my buddy John really liked the size of it.

Roof mounted yak systems that lock it up there can work too. Or get an inflatable yak which technically are much better now than ten years ago. Am sure you considered all the possibilities.

There are much bigger plans for the roof space that is not used up by solar panels. The kayak really is not in the way at all. Hopefully if then weather plays nice I can make some headway this month.

The communication station is almost done, still waiting on an antenna tuner for the HF radio. All the wires are run through the walls and insulated.

That looks so inviting inside. You are really for an adventure between your ambulance, Jeep (Toad), and your kayak.
I may not always post, but I'm definitely always watching the progress you're making.

Since everyone seems to like the Jeep, here is a pic without the snow...

I had originally intended to make the Ambo a 4X4 with some deuce and half military axles. Strangely buying a Jeep to tow was far cheaper.

I like that you have the hard top on it. Much better for heat, cold, and wind noise. My old XJ was the same color.
Now if you had converted the ambulance to 4x4 it would have been way beyond awesome.  ;-)

Jeeze don't encourage him !!!!
Baloo is like a mad scientist but a mechanic version.....he's probably got the 4x4 conversion stuff behind the garage !
Just kidding Bud , that rig is "the balls" nice RF rig too.
Antenna ??? a (folding)40' 14 element beamer?

I didn't buy the parts, but I made the list! A set of Rockwell top loaders (axles), divorced spicer transfer case, custom drive shafts, disc brake conversions for Rockwells. Basically 10k+ to get it done right. Not completely out of the question, just not anytime soon.
Right now I have a 16' folding fiberglass whip for the hf, and a 18" 2 meter antenna on the roof. Would love to get a bigger antenna for the hf!

Wow.. Great Job, great thread. Thanks for sharing and Thanks for your service.

Still have to pull the torque converter and flywheel, then install new rear main seal and start on the manual flywheel and clutch installation.

As a certified non-mechanic, just looking at pictures like this make me feel vaguely uneasy and slightly anxious   ;)

Great thread though, been enjoying it for some time now...
