It is nothing special, just an old second hand Icom 756 (not the pro). still trimming out the enclosure for it, pictures will follow. It has been a slow process between national guard and work. The antenna wire isn't here yet, and I have yet to run the power wire to that compartment. Here is what I have so far.

I like having the fold down tray to keep notes of who I make contact with. I would like to get a desktop style mike, but really don't need one now. Let me know your thoughts...

Still, I can see a Ham radio as being useful in your rig.

Baloo;

I just bought a 1996 school bus with a diesel engine. It's an International 3800 T444E with 36K miles on it. Tell all you know about it. The good, the bad, the ugly, etc.

Oh man am I excited for you! First off congrats on the purchase! The T444E is also known as the 7.3 power stroke found in millions of ford vehicles. Parts will never be an issue. They do use injector sleeves like mine, they use high pressure oil to hydraulically inject fuel into the combustion chamber. They have an excellent history of reliability if properly maintained. Proper coolant is everything! If you choose to use the green stuff you will need to SCA's and check it often for ph and condition. I use the red stuff from Fleetguard, it meets the Navistar requirements. Keep a spare set of fuel filters with you at all times and get used to draining the water from the fuel/water separator. Beyond the engine, you will need a good grease gun with good grease in it to grease all the chassis points on your frame. Make sure you have a jack that can pick it up (at lease one wheel at a time) and check your front end to make sure the king pins are all good. They are not expensive if you do it yourself, but they are not fun (I did mine, and can help with yours if need be). Where are pics? I am dying to see thing! More to follow...

Well today was a good day, passed my technician class ham radio license test. Worked on the ambo a bit, mostly the radio rack.

Still have to run the antenna and main power wires through the conduits to their proper locations.

CONGRATS on getting your Technicians license. I have confidence that running power and antenna leads will pose no problems for you. ;-)

Finally all the red lights are gone! Also got the wiring done for the ham radio. Put a few miles on it today.

You will have lots of interesting discoveries with the ham radio license. Two meter repeaters are the obvious use. But you can also get into digital communication modes. And low power communication.

I made a antenna tie down cable, pretty happy with the look, still have to measure how high it sits.

Plus today I ran into an insurance snafu. Let's just say I will not be one dealing with Progressive any longer. You would think that after ten years as my insurance company, they would at least try not to lie to me...

That's a good idea. I knew a ham's wife that drove through a gas island with his car that had an erect antennae many years ago. She took out every  overhead florescent light on that side of the pumps.   :p

Now it looks like an armored car!

Nice job.

Hey all, just a quick update. The Ambo is doing fine, lots of little things getting done. Spent some time in it the past few weeks and now I am working in a list of "must change" things that need to get done before my next trip. The weather has slowed things down, and some additional insulation is high on the list. Well more later, have a good one!

Pic after some cleaning.
