Anyone know of any low wattage microwaves or toaster ovens out there? Thanks.

After 11 years of technology advancement from the date this was posted, the question still yields an answer of no, their are not any low wattage appliances for these two applications.

I built my first solar system on my van in order to have a microwave. I have a 1000W microwave. Any thing smaller just takes too long to heat stuff. A 2000w sinewave inverter draws 150 amps from the battery. But a steam in bag vegetable just takes 6 or less minutes. 15 ah. I have discovered Bob's Red Mill Oatmeal cups. Add water, zap one minute 20 seconds. I also enjoy many Stouffer's frozen meals. The ability to run a microwave gives me the ease of using a Walmart 5 cup coffee pot. I have a butane stove for things that must be pan fried or boiled.

I prefer cakes breads etc. to be baked in a regular oven,

My vandweller lady friend in Wisconsin taught me that biscuits and bread cook up well in a crockpot slow cooker. Crockpot cornbread is Yummy.

The lady in Wisconsin kneads up bread dough the old fashioned way with yeast and whatnot, but I use Bisquick biscuit mix and also boxed cornbread mix, that you add egg, milk, and cooking oil to. I have been using egg "powder" and milk "powder", and it's quite good. Plus I usually slather it with peanut butter or blueberry preserves.

She uses some sort of biscuit paper when cooking the dough, but I use aluminum foil to line the bottom of the crockpot slow cooker, so the goodies come out easily.

I just bought some of this muffin mix, but haven't tried it as yet. I don't do extreme preparation, just easy mixing, :).

I've mentioned the crockpot several times on the other thread, 1 1/2 qt, 120VAC, 120W. Totally luv it. Enjoy.

I have heard of various ways to cook bread type stuff in lots of appliances, including electric frying pan, crock pot, toaster oven and yes even the microwave. It depends on what I'm cooking. I can cook up a pretty good cobbler in a mug and a pretty good chicken pot pie in a small glass bowl and cornbread covered bowl of tamale pie in the same bowl (not at the same time of course), really good brownies in mugs for under ice cream, etc. But real bread and crispy browned biscuits need an oven in my humble opinion. I will need to keep working on baking cookies etc....
I have seen those you tube videos about foil covered box ovens that I am diein' to try, but my poor ol' van is so full now. Maybe if I practice something this winter here at my stick and brick place I will find space..

I cook a lot, breakfast and dinner (lunch is usually something simple) so for me I would do the Toaster Oven, or my Convectional Oven. I only use my micro to heat up coffee pretty much, or melt butter quickly for baking, things like that. I like to warm things slower because I don't think I've had a micro that really heats evenly. That's just my experience though. Also, I have to think about hot weather, and cooking in a small space, makes me have a hot-flash thinking about it :s But the way I'd do that is just eat cold foods, like vegies/salads, fruits, yogurt. I like doing that in any kind of weather when I don't want to cook at all :p
