There is a price to pay for profiting from Youtube videos. If Bob is successful in convincing the masses to join the lifestyle, this same type of people will be everywhere you go. You invite the good, the bad come along.

I never got the feeling Bob's YT vids were about profit.  Rather, they are another venue for him to share the lifestyle with others.

It does seem that different media attract different audiences.  People chiefly attracted to multimedia are different from people chiefly attracted to written forms like books, blogs, and forums.   I am struck by the comment one person made that 80% of the attendees had never been here on the forum.

I was very shocked when I heard that as well. I just got here today and was at the woman's meeting earlier. There were only a very few women that were on the forum. Most of them had  just found out that a forum existed.

I couldn't stay at the women's meeting as I couldn't hear anything anyone was saying.

I did tell Bob when I checked in that I wasn't prepared for a large group. He was very gracious in his reply.

I am confident that Bob will figure out how to find the experience he wants for himself--as he has in the past-- and hopefully also find a way to share it and his ideals with others of kindred spirit as he has in the past. I look forward to his solution.

While I am at it--- rtr and posting--- let me apologize now for having to run Mulligan more often than I would normally on a cold night. It really isn't a cold nigjt but My service dog is sick and even having him under 2 wool blankets hadn't helped much. I also apologize for opening and closing the van door as he rushes to go outside. Been a wild trip for me here already. Not to mention I fell out the back of the van too.

Is the rtr always this close in time to the huge conflab?

Kudos to Bob for such a success!

Well sure glad to see Bob is ok!

I am not at the RTR but I will just say that I could forgive just about anything if it was done for the comfort of a sick dog

I had noticed that it seemed a lot of people were joining the forums in the recent past , some days several.

It made me think there would be a lot of new faces at RTR for their first boondocking experience. (Though a RTR is not exactly the same type of boondocking as most do out in the solitude of nature.)

But seeing that 80% of those attending weren't on the forms made me think " wow ,that place must be super crowded this year!" and picturing some of the outdoor festivals I have worked in my mind.

I anticipated that Bob and some of the others I know that leaned to a more introverted small gathering must have been socially challenged and not surprised it could get a little out of hand.

I'm very happy to see that most "bumps in the road" have been negotiated and hope the overall event is thought of as positive by everyone.

Summer RTR should be a much different animal , time will tell..............

Kudos to Bob for his efforts keeping it all on track.

Click the rate button on any of his posts to show your appreciation. Maybe we can double his count????

Same here.

Also occurs to me that, if people are upset about Bob's video and/or the number of people that attended this time; attendance may be down next time (or plans will be implemented for Bob to have a team of volunteers to handle the numbers/issues at any future RTR's Bob chooses to have)

I keep wishing Bob would come to forum more often and do a little less youtube, but it's his choice. Just kinda miss him around here.

They moved the "music" group near me, but it's not that bad.

Moderator: Please split this thread, the discourteous people at the current RTR has nothing to do with the Summer RTR of the title.

this is like reality tv I thought that is what the RTR, docos, blogging, forums and youtubing are all about letting everyone know about this marvelous lifestyle, this wonderful way of living, soon the desert, blm land, hiways and biways will be full of people all parked side by side playing loud music, looking for places to empty their buckets, robots serving us at walmart, pumping our gas, we wont' be wage slaves,, we will show them......join the tribe.... the revolution...... split the river Colorado...... and drive across to the promised land.....

BLYTH

It's fine, it's crowded, it's still fun. Most people are nice. It's not as dramatic as it seems from a lot of comments. It is still safe, which says a lot for this many people gathered.

if you advertise and give directions on youtube bad, bad, bad things are going to happen

I really think all this fuss is crazy. I've been at this RTR the whole time and I haven't heard a single person being loud. There are, I don't know, 500-1,000 people here and they are essentially all being super nice.

No bad bad bad things are happening. Just people on the internet (most of whom aren't even here at the RTR) being ridiculous and hyperbolic.

I seen a video with a different point of view. Apparently it wasn't blaring radios, it was a few people with acoustic guitars.

I didn't make the RTR because neither I nor my dog enjoys being on a leash. We both have enough sense than go bother other people. Now the rule is no campfire fun. Glad I didn't go.

DannyB1954: Yeah, there were people playing guitars and singing. Pretty quietly. I was parked the first 4 days pretty close to the main camp fire and people played some music there. It wasn't especially loud. They didn't play late. A few other people here and there were sitting outside their vans sometimes during the day lightly strumming a guitar.

Day Drifter's observations of camp that she shared in her video were consistent with mine. She does a pretty good job describing that it seems Bob over-reacted about the music itself, or about one person (or a few?) responding to him in an unfriendly way... Bob has said himself he's extremely busy and it seems he's under a lot of stress with RTR organization, seminar facilitation, and all the people here wanting to talk to him. I've seen a lot of people walking around looking for Bob. And people have asked me "have you seen Bob? Do you know where he is?"... There was a guy camped near me who looks sort of like Bob, and I heard numerous people go up to him and go "Bob Wells?"... Thinking they had found Bob.

Oh yeah... Bad things!! Like a few people strumming a guitar! The Horror!

It's funny. There are like a thousand people here being nice to each other and having fun. All the people with negative comments (aside form Bob's video) seem to be typing the from their computer somewhere far away.

From my experiences last year, I can honestly say this.  Just because you did not see it, (or hear it) does not mean it did not happen.

I think this line has been beat to death.  Let it go please. Too many negative comments all around.   :(
