I'm Mac, I live in TN. I am in the planning stage, of how to escape the rat race.

I'm not so sure y'all want a long life history just now, but I am not new to simple living, but never yet lived in a vehicle. These last years I have found myself sucked into society's traps and have been feeling it is time, once again, to get out.

I have already read extensively on this forum, have bought and studied Bob's book.

I currently have decent work, and for the time being, a stix and brix that is costing me very little to live in, but the arrangement will not last, and I've decided I'm be damned if I have to start paying full rates for a place to live.

I am a realist - I know I do not belong in the consumer-driven life of a well adjusted member of society - the concept of vandwelling appeals and is a good fit, but I will be honest, I need to see if I have what it takes to join this crowd.

SO that's the quick intro.

Welcome Mac!

my bet is you will be fine. dive in with the questions. i have learned a great deal here and these are wonderful people here. truly.

Welcome from New Mexico Mac...Glad to have you with us....I hope this is all you think it to be....
It works for some and not for others. Perhaps it will be just what you need tho..
Bri

I like the life! I hope you do too! The best thing, it's pretty easy to try, if you already have a vehicle, just move in!!! Or perhaps just start a night or two in it, and "try it out" You can even do it in your driveway.

With Love,
Tara

Hi Mac,

Welcome! I'm sure you will enjoy the lifestyle. That was good advice about trying it out in a driveway. I've been living in Dad's driveway for a year and a half (I tried to move and his health problems caused me to have to return). It doesn't matter where you are parked... you are living at home no matter where it is sitting.

I sort of jumped in kind of quick. One nice recommendation might be to rent a U-Haul Ford Econoline van for a couple of days and try camping in it with a pillow and sleeping bag at Walmart (during warm weather).

It sounds like you have the right persective to enjoy this lifestyle. It's addictive!

Brad aka V.T.

Welcome to the group MacRaven! I totally agree with your decision about wanting to escape what many have come to accept as "normal." I'm hoping to live the mobile life and not live a normal life later this year. After living in a "sticks 'n' bricks" building most most of my life I need a change as well. It's time to hit the road and find something different in my life.

Good luck on your new life!

Well thanks, y'all, for the welcome.

I can say I have moved from the pure research phase to the actual planning stage. Bob's book and y'all's extensive contributions on this site are most helpful.

I know I am lucky to have time on my hands to plan my rig, etc, I know not everyone was so lucky, that they had to jump into their vehicle and wing it. On the other hand, I need to get moving, because you never know when things will change.

Y'all will see a lot of posts from me probably to help me nail down certain decisions before a purchase my van, thanks for the help.
