Kinda late to the discussion but we have a 1.5 gal Travel Berkey in our van. We have it sitting on top of our metal shelving unit and bungeed tightly against the upper wall (it's a conversion van) using an eye hook screwed into the wall.
This has worked perfectly for us as we leave the Berkey as-is while we drive (ie, filters remain inside and do not empty any water from the lower chamber). The only restriction we follow is that we don't drive with a full upper chamber. We have been on the road for 7 months over many, many miles of gravel roads in the west with absolutely no problems. I just did a red dye test recently and filters still going strong.
