Hitch cargo carrier gets hit?

Anyone with a hitch carrier having problems with people hitting it while parking, because they don't see it?  Where do they sell those little flag poles that you can attach to it as a warning.

I had one on the back of my van (hitch carrier) and some deputy in Arkansas stopped me late at night for not having reflective tape. I think he was just checking because of Texas plates but the tape is cheap.
