Haven't figured out a way to get the gas down that tiny tube yet.
Only thing I can think of, is when my next journey to civilization
becomes unavoidable, pick up an eyedropper while there.

Joey,

Just a suggestion: No need for an eyedropper. Punch a small hole in the bottom of a tin can near the rim. This will make a tiny stream funnel. Put one finger over the hole while holding the can by the bottom, fill the can with gas. Hold the can over the carb. then move your finger aside to let the gas drain into the carb tube. When full, use the same finger to block the hole and remove the can from the engine compartment.

Start the engine.

Stude, your can method worked! I drove a large nail through the bottom center of a tuna can, from the inside, so the ragged edges on the bottom would act as kind of a guide, fitting nicely into the vent tube.

Unfortunately, it made no difference whatsoever. After dumping 2 tuna cans full of gas down the vent tube, NOTHING. Went back to dumping gas down the carb, & just like always, she'd start right up, run a few seconds & die.

Hoping it would eventually work, I repeated this process, like all the times before, till the battery started giving out again. These repeated dischargings are ruining my battery, too. I'm already noticing it runs down quicker each time.

Hey, smilies are working for me again, for the first time in WEEKS! YAY!

Hey Joey, when you poured the gas in did you notice if it sprayed into the engine when you pump the throttle?
Once the float bowl is full of gas. The gas is pulled into the engine by vacuum and goes thru the jets. So the passage thru the jets must be plugged. Unfortunately the only way to fix that is take the carb apart again.

Joey,
Glad the can/funnel method worked, but sorry it did not help your starting problem.

Sounds like sidat202 was able to tell something from that. Can you get your brother to help with the carb again? It may be just a little dirt in the jets now.

Good luck and hang in there, better days are coming.

Bob
Thanx, guys! It's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get my sorry brother over here to help me with ANYTHING, even though I've REPEATEDLY offered to pay him, as I've had to do on the FEW occasions I HAVE managed to get him over here.

The heck of it is, he's a darn good mechanic, & I have no doubt he could fix it, so I'm thinking about just flat-out BEGGING him, & telling him to NAME HIS PRICE, WHATEVER IT TAKES! How exactly I'll manage to actually come up with the payment is another story, but still....

Sid, after pouring gas down the vent tube, when I pump it while looking down the carb, it doesn't actually look like a SPRAY or STREAM, but there's like this light mist, almost like smoke.

Getting more concerned each day, as I'm now only 3 weeks & 6 days from the deadline. STILL trying to do it all on my own, with no help whatsoever.

Hang in there Joey, don't get discouraged, you WILL do it!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanx, Judy! Doin' the best I can here. SUPPOSED to have a helping hand tomorrow & possibly the next day, so I'm hoping to make a dent in all this crap that's still in the house.

Then, I'm HOPING to have a moving sale Friday & Sunday. Don't know if it'll actually be possible to pull anybody in out here in the boonies though, so it may be a total flop, but I gotta try.

As for the RV, I've pretty much given up hope. I can't fix it, & can't get anybody out here who can, so it looks like a lost cause. Still, it's not the end of the world, just several thousand more dollars wasted. At least it'll still be possible to live in it though, provided I can get someone out here with a big enough truck to drag this piece of crap into position after the home is gone.

Just wish I hadn't spent over $200 MORE for nothing, simply trying to get it started. Think I'm gonna put the engine cover back on it, & write it off as hopeless once & for all, before the cats discover they can get inside through the engine compartment.

Hey joey, I read what you said about the spray. If it seems like fog more then spray its possible you didnt put enough gas in. I dont know how much that float bowl holds. If your still interested in trying to fix it. Try pouring in 2 more ounces and see if it becomes a spray. If not try one ounce at a time until its a spray. When you pump the throttle it should be two steady streams. Then you can try and see if it will start and run.
If you have given up, I will stop pestering you.
Good luck Sid.
Oh, you're not pestering me at all, Sid. Believe me, I appreciate your expertise! I'm certainly willing to go out there & pour some more gas down that tube if there's a snowball's chance it'll work.

I'll post the results after I've tried it. Don't know if that'll be today or not, cuz if my helper shows up, I have to concentrate on getting some of this stuff outta the house. Only 3 1/2 weeks left, & I still have a house full!

Thanx, Sid!

Hey, my helper actually showed up, & I had some help today! YAY! I scarcely know how to act!

It was just one person, but we made a serious dent in it! Unfortunately, I'm still WAY, WAY behind schedule. At this point I should have nearly 8 rooms empty, & I'm actually at maybe 3, but my helper is supposed to be back tomorrow, along with another, so maybe by the end of the day tomorrow, I'll at least be somewhere close to the halfway point. Even at THAT though, it's gonna be tough to complete, with just over 3 weeks to the deadline.

Also, some guy showed up & bought one of my HPVs, too, so that helped a little.

Didn't even get to TOUCH the RV today, cuz I have to concentrate on the more important & pressing issue of emptying the house, at least while help is available! Make hay while the sun shines, as they say.

Joey,

What's a HPV?

I googled it, and got a lot of stuff about infectious diseases?

Bob

P.S. - Glad you finally found some help.

Thanx, Bob!

Oh, & HPV = Human Powered Vehicle!

Joey - I've read the full thread. Sounds like you are overwhelmed with crap. Been there, done that. When I was there and realized it, called the Salvation Army and Goodwill. Said "come and get it". They came and it was gone.

If they will not come get it, put a note on CL for a whole house of stuff for free. It will disappear fast.

Remember, it's just stuff and it can cover you up so bad you can't see where you are going.

Once it is gone you can't believe the relief. I know money for all of it looks good, but if you can't sell it, it ain't worth squat.

Sometimes peace of mind is way more valuable than $$$.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Okay, my lady friend returned Thursday, as promised, & the pastor also showed up, so I actually had TWO helpers that day! We managed to get a HUGE amount done, but I'm STILL behind schedule!

I think I'm at approximately the halfway point, as far as emptying the house. Been giving stuff away, throwing stuff away, selling stuff, U name it! Still, as of today, I should have 8 rooms finished, but I actually have maybe 6 done, & 6 to go.

After Wednesday's & Thursday's efforts, the loft of the barn is now about 90% full, & the downstairs area is finally all cleaned out & ready, but my deadline is only 3 weeks from tomorrow (Sunday), so it's gonna be tough. If I can get some more help for even just a couple more days during the next 3 weeks, I think I'll make it in time.

Did the first yard sale yesterday (Friday), but not surprisingly, it was a dismal failure. Spent $9 on yard sale signs, & took in $12. Whopping profit of $3 for 12 hours of work. Just one more reason I hate living out here in the middle of nowhere.

Still, Friday is a terrible day for yard sales, so I'm gonna try it again tomorrow (Sunday). I may try it one more time next weekend too, as it'll be after the first of the month, but if it flops again next weekend, I'll give up on that as well.

I'm not sure what kind of stuff you're selling at the garage sale, but especially since you are out of the way, advertise on craigslist and any other free adverts in your area. Take pics and post on your craigslist ad with the most appealing things you have... list everything. Saturdays are your best bet and next wknd is a holiday wknd so it would be great. Also, list some things individually on CL in the proper categories and when they call let them know they can come see the item next "whatever day" at your sale... unless they are ready w/cash NOW!! Best of luck. If I were closer i sure would help you!
Thanx, WMH. Yeah, I'm aware that Saturday's are the best days for yard sales & such, but for reasons I won't go into on here, I won't do it on Saturdays.

As for Craigslist, I've had ads running continuously for MONTHS. Things have been trickling out the door as a result, but progress has been incredibly slow. I've now even recently listed the fact that I'm having the yard sales for the next 3 weekends on there, for all the good it'll do.

Had been using eBay as well. In fact, I've been an active eBayer for something like 14 years, but the big stuff is too difficult to deal with outside my local area, & small stuff isn't worth the time & effort.

Still, I'll give it one last shot tomorrow & next weekend as well. Thanx for the well-wishes!

Well, today's moving sale was a 100% TOTAL failure! Even worse than Friday! NOBODY showed all day long! NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON!

Just got back from an 11-mile ride, gathering up my $9 worth of yard sale signs. I figure maybe someday I may live some place where I can actually use 'em, so why leave 'em out there after wasting that much money on 'em?

Considering the dismal failure of my attempts this weekend, I've decided not to try it again next weekend after all, which is another reason I went out & gathered up my signs, even though it WILL be the first weekend of the month.

Lesson learned: Trying to have a moving or yard sale here is like resisting the Borg.... it's futile.

Hugs to you! I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well. Would renting a booth at a flea market or something be possible? Just thinking out loud... try and do something nice for yourself this evening!
