He probably didn't know what he was supposed to be teaching. Maybe he majored in "Managerial Myopia" in college.

True, but I usually word it like "Maybe you don't know how to do this, but I thought I would ask..." But it usually works better with guys, who often at least have a idea (even if it's wrong). Some of the women I've met are so dumb that they can't even set their mascara brush down long enough to listen.
