Hi folks,

Most of my free lifestyle is spent at parks during the day and Walmart, Lowes, and the like at night.  I'm interested in BLM east of the Mississippi.  Recommendations are welcome.

Thanks Stranger! I found the thread titled Nomads East of the Mississippi. Looks like I really might not be the only one :)

Most BLM land is in the West, and there's not much of it on the East.

But I've wandered all up and down the eastern US, moving from Walmart to Walmart.

Which area are you thinking of, and what are your interests to see (history, nature, science...)?

My travels include the mid-west one Walmart, Lowes, street stealth one night at a time. Finished hanging a closetmaid which will make packing up or not easier at move time. I thought about doing the Appalachian Trail via the towns (no long distant hiking for me). Maybe in the spring, I'll consider that more closely. Currently, I'm traveling from one haunted spot to the next in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

I'm new here too - and very east and north of the Mississippi. In fact, I'm only a few minutes from the Hudson River right now. The big thing that stands out about the east, as you know, is the lack of free camping compared to the west. I have been trying to plan my trip south, and even the National Forests out here all seem to shut down camping at the end of October. I guess they don't expect many hardcore lunatics to be still out camping in the cold. Looks like I'll be "camping" at truck stops and Wal-Mart along the way.

You're up there where there are very few NF. I'm in SW Ohio currently and will be here a couple of more weeks. But brrr is the new prefix for Good Morning y'll. It was 23 when I woke this morning. My advice is to map your route and don't carve it in stone. Google casino's along the way. The one new me has a wonderful buffet. I'm hoping from Walmart to FlyingJ to Casino to daytime parks where I run the generator. My dream is to have solar. When I stay at the FlyingJ/Pilots running the generator doesn't seem to be an issue at night and the pups and I stay a bit warmer on those nights.

Kentucky has BLM. Redbird section of the Daniel Boone National Forest is a bit rough for a 27' class c. Cumberland side is a lot nicer and easier on the vehicle. So according to how you plan to travel, some areas will open up. Most of my boondocking has been in Ohio and Kentucky due to my work. It is beginning to give way and allow more freedom.
