Hello. I go by Will. I'm a desert rat—born in the Sahara (father was US Air Force stationed in Tripoli, Libya) and raised in the Mojave (Southern California high desert). Have had several careers over my lifetime (radio broadcasting, rock concerts, professional audio-visual, and a major internet corporation). Have tried the American Dream, but wasn't a good fit. Now looking to shift to the next phase of my life.
In my twenties I got the idea to work my way around the country. At that time I thought of it as finding a job in some city, working for a time to save up for the next move, moving on to a new place and starting the cycle over again. I got as far as Salt Lake City, settled down for 30+ years, started a family, bought a house—all the "proper" moves. Now, the marriage is dissolved, the kids are all grown, and I find I'm not interested in a house.
I recently read the NY Times article about the RTR ("The Real Burning Man," Feb. 1, 2018) and have been lurking here and watching a lot of YouTube channels. Okay, I'm in. I think the digital nomad approach might be a good fit. Looking to turn turtle (that is, put my house on my back and head back into the wider world).
Look forward to joining the conversation.
