A friend just mentioned that the guy she was dating had an interesting and storied past in public court records. Being a paralegal she looked all that up. Once you have a name and address you can find out a lot.

Maybe that's why government wants you to have an address? Speculating and hope it's okay to discuss this.

Interesting. It has good and bad points. Nice to know who you are dating. I feel the police are more often my friends and hope they know who my neighbors are but don't want them to know anything about me.:-/

Two sides to everything. On one hand, most folks like to know if a dangerous criminal is nearby. On the other hand, most folks find it creepy that the government is keeping tabs on people and would be shocked as to how much info is publicly available if you know where to look.

Shocked?? Who's shocked??

Friend looked me up and found nothing because there is nothing. It's all over ten years old and a lifetime of troubles away. So if you do fix old issues they do go away.

Several years ago, an ex-GF looked up my public records and showed me a copy of it. I was rather amazed how much information was contained. Although I have no criminal record whatsoever, it still contained information that I would prefer not to be there, such as previous addresses, previous marital information, some financial info, etc. The ex was particularly interested in my previous marital records.
